Oregon’s U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley will kick off the new year with town hall meetings in several counties, including Jefferson, Deschutes and Crook counties this week. He will update constituents on his work in Washington, D.C., and answer their questions and invite their suggestions about how to tackle the challenges facing Oregon and America. Since joining the Senate in 2009, Merkley has held a town hall in each of Oregon’s 36 counties every year. This Friday Senator Merkley will hold his Jefferson County Town Hall at 11am in the Madras Performing Arts Center. He will hold town halls in Bend and Prineville later in the day.

The Lincoln’s Powwow Committee is seeking queen candidates for the annual celebration next month. Candidates need to be between 14 and 25 years of age, a tribal member of any tribe, single with no children. Lincoln’s Powwow 2019 will be February 8-10 at Simnasho Longhouse.

Madras White Buffalo basketball will have a few more non-league games this Friday and next Friday and then will start league play mid-month. Listen to KWSO this Friday when the boys match up with Mountain View at 7pm.

The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs has announced Board of Director and Commission vacancies. The openings have been posted on the Tribes website warm springs dash N S N dot gov and in the community. The Boards and Commissions with vacancies are: Warm Springs Credit, Indian Head Gaming Board, TERO Commission, Warm Springs Composite Products, Warm Springs Housing Authority, Museum at Warm Springs, Warm Springs Power & Water Enterprise, Warm Springs Telecommunications Company, Warm Springs Ventures, Water Control Board, Joint Health Commission, Warm Springs Court of Appeals and the Elections Board. Notices for each can be downloaded from the website. The deadline for submitting required application documents is February 1st.
