There is a free dental clinic today hosted by Medical Teams in collaboration with Warm Springs Managed Care. It’s from 9am to 2pm at the Family Resource Center. Services provided include dental extractions and fillings. Services are free and no appointments are necessary.
Warm Springs Community Health’s Mobile Medical Clinic will be at the Simnasho Fire Station today from 10 until 3. They can help with medical problems, medications, COVID & flu shots, and STI tests. Walk-ins are welcome, however procedures will require an appointment. To schedule, call 541-553-2352.
The Madras Community Food Pantry on Culver Highway is open from 10-1 today. Meanwhile, the Life Raft Food Pantry at 401 5th Street in Maupin runs from 11-3, and the Dufur Community Food Pantry inside Dufur School is open from 4-6.
The Madras High School Homecoming Parade is today at 12:30. Community members can line up along 10th street in front of the high school.
Warm Springs K8 Volleyball teams are hosting Elton Gregory today starting at 3:30.
The Community Center is hosting a spooky season Halloween movie night this evening from 5:30-7. Free snacks will be provided.
The Madras-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce is coordinating local Candidate Forums. This evening at 6:30 there will be a forum for Madras Mayor candidates at the Madras City Council Chambers. People need to submit questions for the candidates for consideration to MadrasChamber@gmail.com before the events.
Tomorrow is a no-school day for 509-j students. The Boys & Girls Club will be open full day 8am to 5pm. There will be lunch service at 11.
Warm Springs Recreation is taking kids ages 6-17 on a trip to the pumpkin patch at Liepold Farms in Boring this Friday (10/9). The bus will leave at 9:30 and return by 4:30. Kids need to be signed up and space is limited. The cost is $12. Permission slips and payments are accepted at the Rec office. Kids will need to bring a sack lunch, good walking shoes and a warm jacket. Call 541-553-3243 for more information.
BendFilm and the Wyam Youth Center will feature a special screening of the movie Smoke Signals in Warm Springs on Friday (10/9). Actress Tantoo Cardinal, who plays Arlene Joseph (Victor’s Mom) in the film, will be in attendance for meet & greet before the film and a panel after. The meet & greet starts at 2pm and the film screening at 4:30.
The BendFilm Festival is underway and in addition to Smoke Signals, the Wyam will also show a Narrative Shorts Showcase screening Friday at 7:30pm. On Saturday (10/10) at the Wyam, there will be a screening at 5pm of The River Remembers & First Descent: Kayaking the Klamath, and a Documentary Shorts Showcase at 7. Warm Springs Extension Service is inviting folks to join for the annual Fall Fruit Loop Tour this Saturday (10/10). They will be leaving the Education Building between 8 and 8:30. Message them on the Warm Springs Extension Facebook page if you want to join The weather is supposed to get much cooler starting Friday, so dress accordingly. And be sure to bring your own lunch, snacks, water and money to buy produce.
Warm Springs Nation Little League needs volunteers to come out and help clean up the softball and baseball fields. Bring any useful tools, equipment or skills this Saturday (10/10) from 10am to 2pm behind the Community Center.
This Saturday (10/10) there will be memorials for Josh Kalama and Clifford Bernie Earl. A headstone unveiling will begin at 10am at the Agency Cemetery. Memorials, lunch and namegiving will follow at the Agency Longhouse.
Jefferson County Library Association is having a book sale at the Books, Bites & Harvest Delights event this Saturday (10/10) at the Jefferson County Event Complex from 10am-4pm. They will have books for all ages and genres. Book donations are also welcome.
The 509J School Board will meet on Monday, October 12th in the Board Conference Room at the District Office (Support Services Building) located at 445 S. E. Buff Street in Madras at 6:30pm.
Warm Springs Prevention’s 5th Annual PreventionFest will be held Wednesday, October 14th from 4-6:30. They will have food, treats, a pumpkin patch and family fun activities in the field near the Prevention office on Campus. Admission is free.
Central Oregon Community College’s JobFest will be at the Madras campus on Wednesday, October 14th from 10am to 1pm. It is free and open to the public; no registration is required. Attendees can learn about employment, internship and volunteer opportunities while determining the types of skills and experiences required for those positions. Employers from a wide range of industries will be on site.
