Funeral Arrangements for Sal Sahme – Burial is this morning (Feb. 3) at Sunrise at Simnasho Cemetery.
Funeral Arrangements for Lillian Rose Heath – Wednesday, February 4th at 10am they will depart from Spencer Libby & Powell Funeral Home in The Dalles to Simnasho Longhouse. A viewing will be done at 11:30am, followed by 3 Sevens of Washut Services and then proceed straight to the Mouth of the River for burial. A giveaway & meal will follow back at the longhouse.
Thrive Central Oregon can help connect people to local resources they are looking for – such as housing, healthcare, basic needs, benefits assistance, employment and more. There are many resources in Central Oregon, but they can be difficult to access alone. They have drop-in hours in Warm Springs and Madras once a week. Tuesdays they are available at the Warm Springs Housing Authority from 9am-noon and 1-3pm. Thursdays they are at Jefferson County Public Health 10am until 3.
The Warm Springs Commodities Food Bank, located at 4217 Holliday Street in the Industrial Park, is open 10 until 1 today.
The Madras Community Food Pantry at 370 SW Culver Highway is open 10-1 today.
Warm Springs Community Health Program has a hand sewing circle that meets every Tuesday at noon in the I H S atrium. Lunch and supplies are provided for participants. For more info contact Charlene 541-553-2352 or Charlene.Moody@wstribes.org.
Today is Senior Lunch from noon to 1 at the Warm Springs Senior Building.
The Jefferson County Senior Center in Madras will serve lunch today for folks 60 & older.
Walking in Beauty through Difficult Times: A Talk by Diné Elder Lupita McClanahan will take place this afternoon at the Museum at Warm Springs from 4-6. Raised in secrecy by traditional elders in Arizona, Lupita was hidden to preserve her family’s lineage from the boarding school system. Though eventually taken, she drew on her cultural strength to endure and overcome unimaginable challenges. Everyone is welcome to hear her stories. There will be a meet & greet starting at 4:00, followed by storytelling. It’s free to attend.
On the Madras High School athletics schedule today: Boys Basketball hosts Estacada – JV2 starts at 4pm, JV is at 5:30pm & Varsity tips off at 7pm. You can hear the varsity game live from the Buffalo Dome. Girls Basketball travels to Estacada – JV starts at 5pm & Varsity will play at 6:30pm.
The Warm Springs Johnson O’Malley Committee’s next scheduled meeting is today 5:15-8pm in conference room at the Tribal Administration Building. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month. If you need to contact the JOM Committee email JOM@wstribes.org.
The Native Language Classes being offered at Warm Springs K-8 Academy after school program have been opened up to anyone in the community. Families are encouraged to join as a group. Children should be accompanied by an adult. Individuals are also welcome. Kiksht & Ichishkiin Language Classes are taught bay Radine & Ange on Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:30-5:30 at the K8. Shawnetta Yahtin holds a Talking Circle once a month in the Health & Wellness Center atrium from 9-10am. Light snacks are provided. The next Talking Circle is on Wednesday, February 4th.
The Warm Springs K8’s Native American Student Union for 6th, 7th & 8th grade students will meet on Wednesday (Feb. 4) during the lunch period the Community Room.
The MAC Rec District offers swimming lessons and the next set begins tomorrow (Feb. 4). They have classes for all levels, from beginner to advanced. Check out their website to see classes and find out about scholarships. https://www.macrecdistrict.com.
Warm Springs Prevention will present Opioid Information & Narcan Training on February 5th & February 19th 6:30-8pm in the old school cafeteria. Food & Drinks will be provided.
