KWSO Calendar for Thu., Aug. 13, 2026

• A Celebration of Life for Wauna Calica will be held this morning at 9 at the Old Elementary School Gym.  Burial will follow at the Agency Cemetery with a meal after at the Agency Longhouse.
• The Wasco County Fair and Rodeo has been cancelled for this year due to active fire danger and severe smoke from the Grasshopper Fire.  The Fair and Rodeo board will meet to explore possibilities for possibly hosting specific fair events at a later date.
• The Madras Community Food Pantry will be open 10am to 1pm today. It’s located on the Culver Highway.
• The Thursday Market is happening today from 10:30-2 at the Campus Pavillion. Vendors are welcome to come set up.  It’s first come, first serve for available tables and chairs.    Emergency Management will have a free clothing giveaway with men’s, women’s, and kids’ clothing, plus bedding, and everything needs to go! Pick up for Veggie Rx participants will be from 11-2. Please check in with Barbara at the HDFFA table. And if you are eligible and opted in, delivery will begin around 2:30 pm.

The MountainStar Resource Bus providing diapers, wipes and other supplies for young children will be in the parking lot of the Warm Springs Community Center on Friday (8/14) from 10:30-2:30. Families that are registered with MountainStar will be eligible for diapers twice a month. For more information call 458-287-1080. The Wyam Youth Center’s first Indigenous Youth Fashion Show will be this Friday (8/14) at the old elementary school gym. Dinner is at 5, and the show opens at 6. There will be a photographer, local drum group performance by NDN Boyz and raffles of Wyam Youth Center’s handmade items. A Celebration of Life for Keith Baker will be held on Saturday (8/15) at 2pm at the campus pavilion. A potluck and giveaway will follow a short memorial service.

The Humane Society of Central Oregon will have a free pet wellness clinic in Warm Springs on Saturday, August 15^th from 10am until 2pm. The walk-in clinic will be at Fire & Safety on campus – appointments are not needed. Pets can get a wellness exam, vaccinations, microchip and dewormer medication.

Nature Kids outings are for kids and families to explore the wonders of the natural world at a local park with a hands-on activity. There is an outing this Saturday at Sahalee Park in Madras from 9:30-11am. The theme is Teddy Bear Picnic! All Nature Kids are free and ideal for families with kids ages 5-10. Papalaxsimisha, Warm Springs Recreation & Southern Oregon University “All My Relations” Program invite youth to an art camp August 17-19 from 9am to 3pm each day in the Community Center social hall. The community is invited to attend for dinner and an art showcase on Wednesday, August 19^th starting at 5:30. To register kids for the camp call 541-553-3243 or stop by the Community Center office.

ABBAcadabra: The Ultimate ABBA Tribute Concert will take place on Friday, August 21st at General Duffy’s Waterhole in Redmond. Doors open at 6pm with music at 8:30. Proceeds benefit the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Wildfire Recovery Fund and Thrive Central Oregon. Ticke details are available at GeneralDuffys.com.

Celebrate the maternal figures who guide our families at NDN MOMCOM on Saturday, August 22nd from 8:30-5:30 at the Hehe Longhouse. This full day of hands-on workshops honors mothers, aunties, grandmas, and sisters with sessions in food sovereignty, cultural crafting, self-care, and nature. Space is limited to 21 two-person teams—pairing one maternal figure with a youth or relative—and all supplies, ingredients, and instruction are provided, plus door prizes and raffles.
