Funeral Arrangements for Francelia (Fritz) Miller – Burial is today (9/16) at 9am at Simnasho Cemetery.
Today is Tribal Appreciation Day at Kah-Nee-Ta Resort. Every Wednesday through September there will be free admission for Tribal members.
The Madras Community Food Pantry at 370 SW Culver Highway is open today from 10 to 1.
There is a senior lunch today at noon at the Warm Springs Senior Center dining area. Senior meals are free for all elders age 60 and older. Folks can join the seniors for lunch – it’s $1 for Youth, $5 for adults or you can assist with clean-up after the meal. Today they will serve elk meat with wild rice, baked acorn squash & cottage cheese with peaches.
Native American poet, musician, playwright, and author Joy Harjo will present an evening of poetry and conversation at the Wyam Youth Center today. She will give a reading and share stories about the struggles, challenges and joys of coming of age, followed by a Q&A session with the audience. The program will begin at 5pm.
Warm Springs Head Start Open House is this evening from 5-7:30 at ECE.
The Rip City Fair will be in Madras today. Join the Portland Trail Blazers and Moda Health for activities for all ages from 4-6pm at Madras City Hall. The event will feature games & prizes, basketball clinics & shooting contests, Blaze the Trail Cat and the 1977 Championship Trophy.
A Rip City Youth Basketball Camp will be held Thursday (9/17) at the Warm Springs Community Wellness Center Gym from 10:30-noon. All youth ages 6 years to15 years old can participate. Youth 16-18 may register as mentors. Registration is required by parents and forms available at the Community Center office. Parents are responsible for approving child participation away from school. Day of Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. Kids should bring Gym Shoes, proper comfortable apparel and motivation to learn basketball fundamentals for all youth.
Come celebrate KWSO’s 40th anniversary at our open house on Friday (9/18) from 10am to 2pm. Everyone is welcome to take a tour, have a snack and get a KWSO t-shirt.
Warm Springs CPS’s annual energy assistance will be available to up to 300 applicants on Friday (9/18) from 1-4pm at the old school gym. To be eligible, you must bring a printed hard copy of your most recent light bill. They will NOT accept digital copies, emails or phone apps so be sure to print your bill before you go. Payment processing takes time so please be patient with staff and volunteers.

The SMART Reading organization is seeking volunteer readers for the afterschool program in Warm Springs. Training is provided. The time commitment is 1 hour per week, October through May. Apply online at www.SMARTreading.org/volunteer.
