There is a Nature Kids outing today for kids and families to explore the wonders of the natural world with a hands-on activity. It’s from 9:30-11 this morning at Sahalee Park in Madras. The theme is Wings of Wonder! All Nature Kids are free and ideal for families with kids ages 5-10. Registration is helpful but not required. Visit DeschutesLandTrust.org to learn more.
Madras High School Cross Country runners are competing at the Northwest Classic, hosted by Marist Catholic at Lane Community College. Varsity Volleyball is at the Sisters Tournament at Sisters High School.
A local group is holding weekly rallies to help energize local voters. They are gathering every Saturday morning from 10:30 to noon at the North Y in Madras to encourage community participation in the upcoming general election. These weekly rallies will run through October 31st. Everyone is welcome to join.
Metolius City Hall is inviting community members to its Dog Days of Summer fundraising event this evening at 6 at the Rails & Tails Dog Park in Metolius. They are asking for donations to Rockn EZ Rescue Ranch – Pedigree dog food, collars, leashes, treats, and even cash. They will have free hot dogs for the humans and a splash pool the dogs!

Fall term GED classes in Warm Springs begin Monday September 21st at the Education Building. You can register during the first week of classes. Classes will be Mondays and Wednesdays noon til 3 at the Warm Springs Education Building and 3-7 at the COCC Madras Campus.
The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs will host a Huckleberry Habitat Management Workshop on Wednesday, September 23, from 10am to 2:15pm at the Hehe Longhouse. The gathering invites tribal members and traditional harvesters to share knowledge, concerns, and priorities around huckleberry stewardship on culturally important landscapes. Resource specialists and land managers will join primarily as listeners, with the day centered on community voices and lived experience. Presentations and a facilitated afternoon discussion will help shape future management plans for reservation forests and traditional gathering grounds. Tribal members are encouraged to attend and help guide the future of huckleberry habitat across Warm Springs.
The SMART Reading organization is seeking volunteer readers for the afterschool program in Warm Springs. Training is provided. The time commitment is 1 hour per week, October through May. Apply online at www.SMARTreading.org/volunteer.
The Warm Springs Police Department has temporarily contracted with Frontier Regional 911 to assist with dispatch during overnight hours. Frontier is handling all 911 and emergency dispatch services for the Warm Springs PD between the hours of 6pm and 6am. During these hours, community members who need non-emergency assistance from the police department should call 541-384-2080.
