The Lincoln’s Powwow Committee is looking for young ladies who want to run for Junior and Senior Queens. Junior candidates should be 7-12 years of age, and seniors candidates 13 to 17. Lincoln’s Powwow is February 9-11. Interested candidates should contact Shayla Stwyer 553-8231 8-5 weekdays.
The annual holiday toy drive is underway to benefit local children and youth ages 2-17 in Warm Springs. New, unwrapped toys as well as coats, hats, mittens and socks are being collected for local families through December 18th. Items can be dropped off here at the Media Center, at the Social Services office or the Tribal Management Office. Sports…Madras basketball matched up with Scappoose last night. The boys were defeated on the road, JV 42-38 and Varsity 90-74. Kanim Smith led Madras with 17 points, and Cash Reese had 13 points, including eight in the fourth quarter.
The girls fared better – winning the home contests. Madras JV easily handled Scappoose 42-19. Varsity won with a score of 61-42. Lynden Harry hit six 3-pointers and had 21 points and six steals. Jiana Smith-Francis had 10 points, Jayden Davis scored nine, and Alesha Freeman had six rebounds.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Soaring rents in California, Oregon and Washington have led to a surge in homelessness in those states, pushing the US homeless population higher for the first time in seven years. A new US Housing and Urban Development report says homelessness is on the decline across much of the rest of the country. Excluding the Los Angeles region, total homelessness nationwide would have been down by about 1.5 percent compared with 2016.
The Warm Springs Dental Department is closed today. They have new x-ray equipment being installed and this well help to better serve the needs of dental patients. This means though that today there will be no dental walk ins. Additionally, the Dental Clinic will then have limited services through December 12th while the equipment is fully set up and programmed.
