June 25, 2017 Warm Springs Wildfire

Following a busy Pi-Ume-Sha Treaty Days weekend, sometime before 9pm, a fire started on the hill behind Indian Head Casino on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation of Oregon.  It spread rapidly in mostly grass terrain.  Sporadic strong gusty winds drove the fire up and over the hill toward Miller Heights and the Warm Springs Media Center.

Overnight the fire seems to be moving toward Lower Dry Creek.

Highway 26 was closed for a period of time between milepost 96-105,  backing up traffic.  Highway 3 was also closed although local residents eventually are able to get home.

With eratic winds possibly continuing through the night – the situation could change at any moment.  KWSO will have an update on the Morning Routine in our 6:15am newscast.
