The Native American Music Association announced its official list of nominees on Monday. Blue Flamez/Scott Kalama from Warm Springs is up for best rap/hip hop recording for Rez Star. He is also up for the Nammy for best music video recording concept for his video To the Sky. Voting is now open to the public at nativeamericanmusicawards.com. The 18th Annual Awards Gala will be October 12th at the Seneca Niagara Resort and Casino in New York.

September is National Preparedness Month. It is a good prompt for folks to make sure you and your loved ones are prepped in case of any emergency. Creating a family disaster plan can be simple to do. You can create your own disaster plan with tools and resources from the Red Cross. Go to redcross.org to create and practice an emergency plan so your family will know what to do in a crisis.

Books are open for the Jamie “Chili Guy” Tohet Wild Horse Race Memorial coming up September 29 at the Simnasho Rodeo Grounds. There’s a Wild Horse Race, a 2-plus-1 (woman shanks) Wild Horse Race, ranch broncs, breakaway roping, junior and senior wild cold races, mini buckers, junior and senior broncs and extra kids’ events. There will also be a 16.2 mile Endurance Race open to all ages. Wild Horse Race entries need to be paid in full by September 22nd.
