The Warm Springs ECE Valentine’s Spirit Week theme today is Dress to Impress. Tomorrow it’s Heart or Red Day.
Today is Warm Springs K8 Wrestling Weigh Ins for Districts.
On the Madras High School athletics schedule today: Boys Basketball teams play at home vs. The Dalles – JV2 starts at 4pm, JV will play at 5:30pm & Varsity is at 7pm. You can hear the varsity game live on KWSO. Girls Basketball has games at The Dalles High School – JV starts at 5pm & Varsity is at 6:30pm.
The Madras Community Food Pantry will be open 10am to 1pm today. It’s located on the Culver Highway.
The Life Raft Food Pantry located at 401 5th Street in Maupin serves the surrounding areas by providing food at no cost to the community Thursdays from 10AM – 3PM. The Dufur School Pantry is open to students and community members Thursdays from 4:30-6:30pm in the Home Ec Room at Dufur School. And the Neighbor-to-Neighbor Food Pantry on Emigrant Street in Wamic is open on the first and third Thursday of the month from 1-4pm.
At the Senior Center – there is Senior Fitness Class this morning 10:45 to 11:45 with a lunch for participants after.
The Mountain Star Resource Bus will be in Warm Springs tomorrow (Feb. 13) providing diapers, wipes & other supplies for families who are registered with their program. It will be parked at the Community Center from 10:30-2:30 on Friday.
With a theme of “Her Power, Our Resilience,” Black History Month at Central Oregon Community College includes community forums on Wednesday, February 18th at noon and 4:30 p.m. at COCC’s Madras campus. The forums will explore the importance of Black History Month and highlight the relationships among communities in Madras, Warm Springs and surrounding areas. They include a display of African and Black historical artifacts and an engaging drum-making workshop. Both forums feature the same content. The forum is free and open to the public, with registration required. Youth sports camps are held every Sunday in Warm Springs. The free camp offers agility training and open gym time for all youth ages 9-18 and will be held Sundays through April 19th from 12:30 to 2:30 in the old elementary gym.
The Warm Springs Community Action Team is now scheduling tax appointments. It will be drop-off tax preparation. Pick up an envelope at the WSCAT office and appointments will be made for Tuesdays and Thursdays through April 9th.
The Madras Elks Lodge is providing fuel and grocery gift cards, to qualifying Veterans and their families. To learn more, you can contact your Veteran Services Officer at the Jefferson County Community Center, 541-475-5228. You can also contact an Elks Lodge officer.
There is a funeral taking place at the Simnasho Longhouse this week. The Lincoln’s Powwow Committee asks all drummers, dancers and community members to please hold off arriving at the longhouse until after 4pm on Friday out of respect for the grieving family.
