Shaker Church Remodel

The Warm Springs 1910 Indian Shaker Church is getting a fresh coat of paint and some renovation as the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Branch of Public Utilities works on identifying facilities in need of attention.   Sofia Medina, a youth worker with the WEDD program, is involved in a renovation project at the Shaker Church. She says the project, which started in November, involves drywalling, texturing, and painting the ceiling and walls of the main hall.

They aim to have the main hall opened up to the public around early March. The project is currently being delayed because a lack of propane and heat is preventing the mud from drying.

The Warm Springs Shaker Church is part of a unique indigenous Christian denomination that emerged in the Pacific Northwest in the late 19th century.   Shakers are known to focus on spiritual healing and a direct, personal connection to the divine.  The local Shaker Church is used for community gatherings, funerals and healing ceremonies and is located on Shitike Creek Road.
