  • The Warm Springs Vital Stats office in the Tribal Administration Building is closed today to allow staff to address a backlog of work. The best way to contact Vital Stats is to stop by (except on Wednesday) or email vitalstats@wstribes.org.
  • Kids can keep summer energy high with free, nutritious meals at Buff Elementary! Stop by for breakfast from 8:15 to 8:45 AM or lunch from 11:00 to 11:30 AM. No registration or fees required for youth ages 1–18.
  • Shawnetta Yahtin holds a Talking Circle once a month in the Health & Wellness Center and it’s happening this morning from 9-10. Light snacks are provided.
  • The Behavioral Health Center in Warm Springs offers an A&D Education Group every Wednesday morning at 10 that is open to anyone. Classes for current BHC clients on Wednesdays are Parenting at 11am, Adult Anger Management at 3 and a Men’s Focus Group at 4. Contact the BHC office for more information.
  • There is a senior lunch today at noon at the Warm Springs Senior Center dining area. Senior meals are free for all elders age 60 and older. Folks can join the seniors for lunch – it’s $1 for Youth, $5 for adults or you can assist with clean-up after the meal.
  • The Sacred Road Summer Program for kids in kindergarten through 6th grade is happening this week behind the Warm Springs Community Center. It’s from 3-5pm. No registration is necessary, kids can just show up. They will have the program every other week through the end of July.
  • The Culture & Heritage Committee meets twice each month on the 1st and 3rd It will meet from 3:30-7pm today at the Education Building.
  • Warm Springs Prevention is having a 4th of July Powwow today at the Campus Pavilion. They’re providing a Hawaiian meal at 5pm and the powwow starts at 6. There will be door prizes & raffles. All dancers & drummers are welcome. Bring a lawn chair.

The Thursday Market is tomorrow from 10:30am – 2pm at the Campus Pavillion. This week, in addition to the usual crafts vendors, Fresh Harvest Kits and Veggie RX from the High Desert Food and Farm Alliance, Best Care will be at the Campus Pavilion and Cascade East Transit will be on hand to help folks understand how you can get a bus pass.  Anyone can set up.  Tables and chairs are provided but first come, first serve. Stop by the KWSO booth – we look forward to seeing you!

KWSO will be broadcasting the Waterfront Blues Festival from Portland this Thursday, Friday and Saturday from noon until around 10pm each day.  The broadcast is courtesy of KBOO radio and in collaboration with Oregon Community Media.

Art Adventure Gallery will have an opening reception this Thursday (7/2) for its newest exhibit featuring Tananawit Warm Springs Artists. It’s from 5-7:30pm at the gallery located on 5th Street in Madras.

Celebrate Independence Day at the Warm Springs 4th of July events this Saturday, honoring the theme “250 Years of America, Time Immemorial Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs.”

  • The day kicks off with a 5k fun run/walk starting at 8am, with registration opening at 7:30 on-site and pre-registration available now at the Community Center office.
  • Charles is sponsoring a breakfast for veterans at the old school cafeteria from 8-10:30am.
  • Parade festivities begin with a 9am lineup at the old elementary school, followed by float judging at 10 and the parade starts at 11.
  • Afterward, head to the Community Center for a BBQ at noon, a horseshoe tournament at 12:30, and family fun games on the fields starting around 1:30.
  • The celebration will conclude with a fireworks display at dusk.
  • At 10pm on the 4th of July there will be a drone show at the Community Center ball fields. At that time – for everyone’s safety – all fireworks need to stop until the show is over. So, if you have your own fireworks and set them off in Warm Springs – please remember to stop at 10 on the 4th of July so everyone can enjoy the drone show safely.  The drone show will last about 15 minutes.

In Madras for the 4th of July – The Madras Elks Breakfast starts at 7am.  The Todd Beamer Run starts then as well. Vendors will be set-up at 9am until noon. The Parade is at 10am and Madras Sparklers Fireworks will start at 10pm.  Fireworks will be at the high school with all other events at Sahalee Park.

Applications are being taken for a pre-k through 2nd grade summer day camp at the Warm Springs Presbyterian Church. It will run July 6-17 from 9am to 4pm. Applications are available at the Education Building.

Warm Springs Nation Summer T-Ball registration for 6- & 7-year-olds will open July 13-24. They are taking 40 players for the league which will have games in August. In person registration will be scheduled – watch for dates & times. For more information contact Liz Hisatake at InfoWSNLL@gmail.com.

Simnasho’s 23rd Annual Hot Summer Night Powwow & Encampment is July 14-15 at the Simnasho Powwow Arbor. Tuesday, July 14th there will be a weenie roast at 6pm, followed by new & rejoiners at 6:45 and the powwow at 7pm. Wednesday, July 15th starts with a potluck barbecue dinner at 6pm and the powwow at 7pm. There are all kinds of specials planned over the 2 days including the sweep your teepee world championships, family team dance, round bustle, puth la pa, drummers relay and the annual running of the Simnasho Derby.

The Warm Springs Police Department has temporarily contracted with Frontier Regional 911 to assist with dispatch during overnight hours. Frontier is handling all 911 and emergency dispatch services for the Warm Springs PD between the hours of 6pm and 6am. During these hours, community members who need non-emergency assistance from the police department should call 541-384-2080.
