Warm Springs Community Health has launched a new podcast, “What the Health?…” to provide reliable information and conversations about important health topics affecting the community.
The first episode features Community Health Nurse Shawn Windsor, Physician Assistant Raneva Dowdy, and Community Health Physician Dr. Michaela Fry. Together, they discuss sexually transmitted infections (STIs), common misconceptions, and the importance of regular cervical cancer screening.
The providers explain that STIs are common and often have no symptoms, making routine testing an important part of preventive healthcare. They emphasize that anyone who is sexually active can be exposed to an infection and that early detection and treatment can prevent long-term complications.
The discussion also addresses the stigma that sometimes surrounds STIs. Community Health providers encourage people not to let embarrassment keep them from asking questions or seeking care. Their message is that sexual health is a normal part of overall health, and confidential services are available through Warm Springs Community Health.
Another major topic in the episode is cervical cancer screening. Dr. Fry explains that routine Pap tests and HPV screening can identify abnormal cells before they develop into cancer. Regular screenings have made cervical cancer one of the most preventable forms of cancer when changes are detected early.
The providers encourage women to talk with their healthcare team about recommended screening schedules and to keep up with routine wellness visits. They note that recommendations can vary depending on age and individual health history.
Throughout the conversation, the hosts stress the importance of open communication with healthcare providers. They encourage community members to ask questions, seek accurate information, and take advantage of preventive services available locally.
“What the Health” was created to help people better understand health issues and to make medical information easier to access. Future episodes will feature additional topics and conversations with Community Health staff and providers.
The podcast is available through KWSO and offers another way for Warm Springs residents to stay informed and make decisions that support their health and well-being. A weekly short program segment featuring information shared during the podcast is also being aired.
