Wildfires are scary and being under an evacuation order is stressful. Think about what you need to do to keep yourself and your family safe and take action. Don’t fight your fear—accepting it helps you regain control. Focus only on the next small step to keep panic from taking over.
If you need to slow down to take some deep breathes do it. Be sure to know what the latest information is and stick to your plan for keeping folks safe.
Check on others who might need assistance too, but be sure that it is safe to do so.
Take time to speak calmly to your kids and give them something to focus on like finding a favorite toy to take and hold on to for comfort. Stay close and answer their questions honestly, calm and without scary details.
Find a safe place, eat and sleep as possible and accept help from others.
