The Commodities Food Bank is open today from 10am until 1pm. It’s open every Tuesday and Friday at the Commodities warehouse in the Warm Springs Industrial Park.
The Madras Community Food Pantry will be open today and Thursday from 10am-1pm at 370 SW Culver Highway.
Tuesdays at the Behavioral Health Center there is an Alcohol & Drug Education class for adults at 4pm, and the Youth Wellbriety Court Program meets at 4. Those are for open clients. If you want to learn more call 541-553-3205 or stop by the BHC. There are also meetings open to the public on Tuesdays – Alcohol & Drug Education with Frank Smith at 10am, a Wellbriety Meeting book study at 2 and Building Relationships at 3:00.
The Maternal Child Health or MCH program at the Warm Springs Health & Wellness Center encourages new pregnant moms or postpartum mothers to come in to learn more about services and support that is offered. There are classes such as back to boards class, breastfeeding support groups, and prep for labor and delivery. At community health women can get pregnancy tests, birth control, child immunizations, and STD checks. If you are IHS eligible you can call 541-553-2352 or stop by the MCH Office in the Community Health side of the Clinic in Warm Springs.
Thrive Central Oregon can help connect people to local resources for housing, health, basic needs, benefits assistance, and more. They have drop-in hours in Warm Springs and Madras once a week. Tuesdays they are available at the Warm Springs Housing Authority from 9am-noon and 1-3pm. Thursdays they are at Jefferson County Public Health 10am until 3.
Tribal offices will close at noon tomorrow and be closed on Thursday for New Year’s Day. The Tribe will reopen for regular business hours on Friday.
NARA Northwest invites everyone to its 38th Annual New Year’s Eve Sobriety Powwow at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland tomorrow (Dec. 31). There’s a youth powwow with fun & games at 1:00, dance exhibition at 4:30 and the Powwow Grand Entry & NARA NW Honorings begin at 6pm. The Sobriety Countdown starts at 9:30.
Funeral Services for Joel Zacarias will be held at the Burns Paiute Gathering Center in Burns, OR on Saturday, January 3rd at 11am.
OSU Extension Service in Warm Springs is having a Food Preservation Class for you to learn how to make and preserve homemade barbecue & marinara sauces. It will be on January 22nd at 10am in the Old School Cafeteria. Space is limited and you need to reserve a spot by calling 541-553-3238 or email sara.olson@oregonstate.edu.
The 59th Annual Warm Springs All-Indian Men’s Holiday Basketball Tournament is on January 22-24 at the Community Center. Entries are due January 14th. Contact Austin Greene at 541-553-3243 for more information.
