  • There is a senior lunch today at noon at the Warm Springs Senior Center dining area. Senior meals are free for all elders age 60 and older. Folks can join the seniors for lunch – it’s $1 for Youth, $5 for adults or you can assist with clean-up after the meal. Today they are serving Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes, roasted veggies, salad & fresh fruit.
  • Seniors age 60 and older can get free meals Wednesdays at noon at the Jefferson County Senior Center in Madras.
  • Social Dance Classes are held Wednesdays from 3:30-5pm in the Community Center Aerobics Room. Classes are open to all ages, and no sign-up is required. If you have questions, contact Deanie Johnson at Culture & Heritage.
  • The Culture & Heritage Committee meets twice each month on the 1st and 3rd It will meet from 3:30-7pm today at the Education Building.

Warm Springs Telecom is inviting the community to a groundbreaking ceremony for the NTIA Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program Grant this Thursday (Jan. 8). They are celebrating the beginning of fiber optic installation that will provide high-speed internet to up to 900 homes on the reservation. They will gather at 10am Thursday at the north entrance of the Tribal Administration building. After the ceremony, refreshments will be provided at the Credit Enterprise building.

Parents of children – infants to age 5 – are invited to participate in the Circle of Security Parenting Program classes that begin on Thursday (Jan. 8) from noon to 1 at ECE. Learn more and sign up with Shawnetta Yahtin 541-553-2352.

The Four Columbia River Tribes set a Commercial Sturgeon Setline Fishery for The Dalles and John Day Pools from 6am Thursday, January 8th through 6pm Saturday, January 17th and for the Bonneville Pool January 19-29. These are for setlines only.

Art Adventure Gallery is having an opening reception this Thursday (Jan. 8) for its new exhibit featuring the paintings and drawings of Mike Kelly. The reception is from 5:30-7pm at the gallery located on 5th Street in Madras.

Youth sports camps on Sundays will begin on January 11th. The free camp offers agility training and open gym time for all youth ages 9-18 every Sunday through April 19th from 12:30 to 2:30 in the old elementary gym.

OSU Extension Service in Warm Springs is having a Food Preservation Class for you to learn how to make and preserve homemade barbecue & marinara sauces. It will be on January 22nd at 10am in the Old School Cafeteria. Space is limited and you need to reserve a spot by calling 541-553-3238 or email sara.olson@oregonstate.edu.

The 21st Century After School Program at the Warm Springs K-8 is looking for a SMART Reading volunteer who will spend one hour a week reading with children in our community. You will read with kinder and first grade students. Training and support are provided. Apply online at www.SMARTreading.org/volunteer.

American Flags in the United States are lowered to half-staff on 4 days annually.  May 15 – for Peace Officers Day.  In May on Memorial Day, which is the last Monday of month. September 11th which is Patriot Day.  And December 7th that is Pearl Harbor Day. Flag Half Staff days outside of those days can be directed by the president of the United States, by a state’s governor or the mayor of Washington DC.
