WSCAT Transportation Initiative

A new pilot project is taking aim at one of the biggest hurdles facing local job seekers: the lack of reliable transportation.

The Warm Springs Community Action Team is launching an electric bike pilot program, offering five employed community members a chance to test out different e-bike models for free. Participants, who must be 16 or older, will rotate through various models every eight to ten days, providing feedback on how well the bikes handle the local terrain.

While the current test run is small, organizers have much larger goals in mind.

“We’re hoping to take the information from the e-bike pilot project and expand it and create more transportation opportunities for our community, because that’s one of the biggest barriers to employment,” said Program Manager Reina Estimo.

If successful, the feedback collected during this trial could pave the way for a significantly expanded initiative, offering a sustainable transit alternative for workers across the community.
