SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Charges have been lodged against a 15-year-old boy accused of using fireworks to start a wildfire in Oregon’s scenic Columbia River Gorge. The flames triggered evacuations, closed an interstate highway and caused ash to rain down on nearby Portland. The Hood River County District Attorney said Thursday that the charges in juvenile court include reckless burning, depositing burning materials on forest lands and recklessly endangering other persons.

5th ranked Madras Boy Soccer defeated Corbett 5-0 yesterday. Madras can secure the Tri Valley Conference title with a win in its regular-season finale against Crook County on Tuesday.

The girls soccer match in a 0-0 draw at home against Corbett yesterday. Keeper Cheydon Herkshan recorded a clean sheet for the White Buffaloes, for the White Buffs sixth shutout of the season.

The David White Memorial Basketball Tournament is this weekend at the Warm Springs Community Center. It begins with an opening ceremony today at 5:30. The championship game is set for Sunday at 4pm.
