Funeral Arrangements for Joni David – 11:30 services this morning at the Warm Springs Community Center with 2 sets of sevens. She will then return to Nisqually. Saturday there will be 10 am Canoe Journey Services at the Nisqually Youth Center followed by burial at the Leshi cemetery.
There is no school today or on Monday (Feb. 2) for 509J students. Teachers are working on grades.
The Boys & Girls Club will be open 8am to 5pm today. They won’t have meal service so be sure your child is all set for breakfast and lunch.
There will be no breakfast club at the Community Center today.
The Food Bank at the Warm Springs Commodities warehouse is open today from 10am to 1pm.
The Mountain Star Resource Bus will be in Warm Springs today providing diapers, wipes & other supplies for families who are registered with their program. It will be parked at the Community Center from 10:30-2:30 today.
Friday is Senior Lunch Day in Warm Springs. Fish dumplings & backbones with green salad & fresh fruit are the menu. Free meals for elders 60 and older are from noon to 1 every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday in the Senior Wellness Center dining room.
Free meals for seniors 60 and older are served every Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday at the Jefferson County Senior Center at 860 SW Madison St in Madras from 12-1.
On the Madras High School athletics schedule today: Boys Basketball travels to Henley High School – JV2 will start at 4pm, JV plays at 5:30pm & Varsity tips off at 7pm. Girls Basketball has home games vs. Henley – JV starts at 5:30pm & Varsity is at 7pm. KWSO will have a live broadcast from the Buffalo Dome.
The Metolius Friends Food Pantry is open to all on Fridays from 4-6pm at 575 Hood Ave. You do need to bring your own bags.
The Miss Warm Springs Pageant will be held tomorrow (Jan. 31) at 10am at the Agency Longhouse.
Warm Springs Tribal Appreciation Days at Kah-Nee-Ta Hot Springs Resort are offered on the first and last Sunday of each month. Tribal Member discounts include free admission for day use, half off of all cabana rentals, 25% off all food purchases and 10% off of pool house store items. The next Tribal Appreciation Day is coming up this Sunday from 11am to 7pm.
The Warm Springs Mt. Hood Meadows trip is set for Monday, February 2nd. We need to get the list of who is going so if you haven’t signed up yet – we have forms at KWSO but also online at KWSO.org. If you want to participate, get your forms in today.
The next Native Aspirations meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 2nd from 12-1:30pm at the old school cafeteria.
Walking in Beauty through Difficult Times: A Talk by Diné Elder Lupita McClanahan is coming to Warm Springs. Raised in secrecy by traditional elders in Arizona, Lupita was hidden to preserve her family’s lineage from the boarding school system. Though eventually taken, she drew on her cultural strength to endure and overcome unimaginable challenges. Everyone is welcome to hear her stories Tuesday, February 3rd at the Museum at Warm Springs. There will be a meet & greet starting at 4:00, followed by storytelling. It’s free to attend.
