12^th Annual Warm Springs Cougars Christmas Coed Tourney results

The Community Center in Warm Springs kicked off the new year with youth basketball. The 12th Annual Warm Springs Cougars Christmas Coed Basketball Tournament concluded Saturday.

8 & Under Teams were all champions – the Warm Springs Eagles coached by Marci Tish, the Warriors coached by Nate Estrada, the Bitty Blazers coached by Tony Holliday and #NewGang coached by Pasha Smith.

In the 10 & Under Division, Champions were Skoden, coached by Robert Bug Main and Runner Up was Team 6-7, coached by Mandi Suppah. Other finalists were the Warriors coached, by Nate Estrada and Team Problem, coached by Troy-Sam Smith. All Tourney selections in the 10 & under division: Addie & Rabe from WS Eagles, Jeneva & Vinny from Team Problem, Gabby & Zakia from the Warriors, Imoni & Raymond of Team 6-7 and Koda & Julian from Skoden.

The 12 & Under Division Champions were WSS, coached by Nate & Sharmayne and Runner Up was the Rez Rebels, coached by Clarence Bryant. Other finalists were the Simnasho Vols coached by Billie Suppah and Wasco Yak Attack coached by Red Sky Suppah. All-tourney selections for the 12 & Under division were Lucy & Xa’Kylen from the Blazers, Aubrie & Brennan for the Simnasho Vols, Kalia & DeeJay from Wasco Yak Attack, Jada & Jude from the Rez Rebels and Circe & Gavin from WSS.

Tourney Director Austin Greene sent a huge shout of thanks to the Health & Human Services Branch for their sponsorship of positive youth activities in our community.

 

30-day comment period opens for tribal input on Salmonfly Solar Project

The Branch of Natural Resources IRMP 30-Day Comment Period is now open to input from Warm Springs Tribal Members on the Salmonfly Solar Project.

Today’s CTWS Tribal Council agenda

The Tribal Council of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs is scheduled to meet today. Here is what the agenda looks like:

At 9am Ken Borchert will give his update as Acting Superintendent for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Warm Springs. At 10am Maggie Martinez will provide an update for the Bureau of Trust Funds Administration. BIA Realty is scheduled for 11am.

This afternoon at 1:30 the Council will have a legislative update conference call with federal lobbyist Matt Hill and state lobbying Michael Mason. Attorney updates are after that – Tribal Attorneys from BBK at 2:30 and Brent Hall from Hall Law at 3:30.

Tomorrow, the Council has Tribal Member Concerns on their agenda starting at 9am.

 

Madras White Buffs teams go 2-1 at Sisters Shootout; Both teams travel to Crook Co. Tuesday

The Madras girls went 2–1 at the Sisters Shootout, improving to 6–5 on the season.

After dropping their opening game at the Sisters Shootout, the Madras boys bounced back with two straight wins. With those victories, the White Buff Boys improve to 10–1 on the year and are currently ranked fourth among all 4A schools.

Both teams now set their sights on a road trip to Crook County tomorrow. The girls tip off at 5:30, followed by the boys at 7:00 p.m.

A free rooter bus to Prineville will be available for White Buff students to go support the teams. Students must sign up today with Ms. Jessica in the front office. The bus departs at 4:00 p.m. and will return between 9 and 10 p.m.
