Warm Springs K8 Wrestling will be at Crook County Middle School today.
On the Madras High School athletics schedule – Boys Wrestling is hosting the Special District 4 Tournament today & tomorrow.
Lincoln’s Powwow is happening this weekend at the Simnasho Longhouse. Grand entry times are at 1pm today and 1:30 on Sunday.
Monday is President’s Day – a federal holiday. There will be no school. The tribal organization will be closed.
Warm Springs Sanitation Drivers will be working their regular routes on Monday (Feb. 16) – President’s Day. Please ensure all residential totes are set out at the end of the driveway, and assist family members or neighbors as needed.
Warm Springs community members can fill containers with drinking water for free every Monday at the Hydro Panel Facility – which you will find next to the old Vehicle Pool building in the Industrial Park. It’s open Mondays from 8-5.
Youth sports camps are held every Sunday in Warm Springs. The free camp offers agility training and open gym time for all youth ages 9-18 and will be held Sundays through April 19th from 12:30 to 2:30 in the old elementary gym.
A Language Immersion School for 3 & 4 year olds will open at the Presbyterian Church Tuesday, February 17th. They will be taking 8 students for the program which will offer language immersion in all 3 languages throughout the day. Limited seats are available. Call 541-553-3290 for any questions.
With a theme of “Her Power, Our Resilience,” Black History Month at Central Oregon Community College includes community forums on Wednesday, February 18th at noon and 4:30 p.m. at COCC’s Madras campus. The forums will explore the importance of Black History Month and highlight the relationships among communities in Madras, Warm Springs and surrounding areas. They include a display of African and Black historical artifacts and an engaging drum-making workshop. Both forums feature the same content. The forum is free and open to the public, with registration required. Thrive Central Oregon can help connect people to local resources they are looking for – such as housing, healthcare, basic needs, benefits assistance, employment and more. There are many resources in Central Oregon, but they can be difficult to access alone. They have drop-in hours in Warm Springs and Madras once a week. Tuesdays they are available at the Warm Springs Housing Authority from 9am-noon and 1-3pm. Thursdays they are at Jefferson County Public Health 10am until 3.
Wasco Electric Cooperative ha unclaimed capital credit payments for the years 1991, 1992, & 1993. A list of members with unclaimed credits can be found their website. Members or their heirs must claim these payments by May.
The Warm Springs Community Action Team is now scheduling tax appointments. You can pick up a tax packet anytime but you do need to set up an appointment to have your taxes done. Call 541-553-3148. Most refunds will be delivered by direct deposit or other secure electronic methods like prepaid debit cards or digital wallets. That means you should have a bank account where your tax refund can be deposited and be sure to have your banking information when you file your taxes. The Community Action Team is the blue building on campus. Tax appointments are on Tuesdays and Thursdays through April 9th.
Forestry Roads from S-42/S-507 Junction to S-507/S-506 at the north end of the reservation are closed through April 1st. These road systems will remain inaccessible with sign, barricades, cameras and motion sensors in place the ensure compliance. Everyone’s cooperation is needed for protecting tribal resources and ensuring the safety of all. If you have any questions, please contact the Natural Resources Department at 541-553-2046.
Coach Bonita Leonard at the Community Wellness Center has workouts Monday, Wednesday & Friday from 6-6:40am. On Tuesday & Thursday there are classes at noon and 5pm. She is also available for 1-on-1 training during work hours. For more information call 541-553-3243.
