The Senior Center is closed today and tomorrow. There will be no senior meals.
Warm Springs Community Health’s Mobile Medical Clinic will be located at the Shelter Dining Hall from 9-11:30 this morning. They can help with medical problems, medications, STI tests, and – by appointment – procedures. Walk-ins and appointments are welcome. Call 541-553-2352 to schedule.
The Reservation Impact Food Bank at the Warm Springs Commodities Warehouse is open from 10 until 1 today. The Madras Community Food Pantry on Culver Highway is also open from 10 to 1.
Today is First Responder Appreciation Day at Kah-Nee-Ta Hot Springs Resort. They are giving complementary resort admission to firefighters, first responders, law enforcement and their families. Tomorrow is free admission for Tribal members.
Warm Springs Community Health’s hand sewing circle meets every Tuesday at noon in the IHS atrium. Lunch and supplies are provided for participants.
There is football and volleyball at the Warm Springs K-8 Academy this afternoon. Volleyball squads take on Sisters with matches beginning at 3:30. Eagles football is also hosting Sisters with kickoff at 5.
Madras High School Boys Soccer has home games today – JV2 & JV teams play The Dalles at 4 and Varsity at 6. The Girls Soccer teams play The Dalles/Dufur on the road at 4:30. White Buff Volleyball is at home today vs. Gladstone with JV2 & J matches beginning at 4:30 and Varsity at 6.
KWSO is celebrating our 40th anniversary with a free screening of the award-winning documentary Bad Press. The film chronicles the courageous fight of Muscogee (Creek) Nation journalists as they defend the freedom of their press against attempts at censorship, highlighting the tension between tribal sovereignty and transparency while documenting the vital role of independent Indigenous media. Everyone is encouraged to attend the event Wednesday (Sep 30) at the Madras Performing Arts Center. Doors open at 3pm with refreshments, the screening starts at 4 and a panel discussion will follow. Come join us!
Warm Springs Prevention is sponsoring the “Every Child Matters” Powwow Wednesday (Sep 30) at the Warm Springs K8 gym. There will be a meal at 5:30 and the powwow begins at 6:30. All singers, dancers & spectators are welcome.
High Desert Food & Farm Alliance is inviting community members to a seed swap and pumpkin painting event this Thursday (Oct 1) from 4:30-6:30pm at the Community Wellness Center in the social hall. Pumpkins will be provided by DD Ranch in Terrebonne; produce comes from Seed to Table & dried herbs from Toto’s Farm in Wolfe Point. Dinner will be provided by Sandra Greene & family. It’s free and family friendly.
Papalaxsimisha is inviting high school seniors and their families to a financial aid assistance night. A college financial specialist will be on-site to answer questions and help families get started on their application. It’s this Thursday (Oct 1) at the old school cafeteria. Dinner will be provided at 5:30 and the meeting is from 6-8.
Warm Springs Nation Little League is looking for volunteers to help clean up the softball and baseball fields the next two Saturdays. Bring any useful tools, equipment or skills October 3rd and October 10th from 10am to 2pm behind the Community Center.
The Madras Aquatic Center Recreation District Board is hosting a listening session on Saturday, October 3rd from 11am to 12:30pm at the Jefferson County Commissioners meeting room located at 66 SE D Street in Madras. You are invited to attend and share what you’d like to see for the future of MACRD.
The “All Pathways of Recovery” potluck and speaker meeting will be held Saturday, October 3rd from 5-7:30pm at the Recovery Community Center, located at 43 NW Cherry Lane, Suite 104 in Madras. Bring your favorite dish or side if you would like to – it is not required. The Recovery Community Center is for adults 18 and older. This is a community recovery event and is not affiliated with AA, NA or any specific recovery fellowship.
The Madras-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce is coordinating local Candidate Forums. Monday, October 5th at 6:30pm there will be a forum for Madras City Council candidates at the Madras Performing Arts Center. People need to submit questions for the candidates for consideration to MadrasChamber@gmail.com before the events.
