Community members are invited to come together this morning in Madras to honor military families who have made the ultimate sacrifice. A ceremonial fire will be lit outside the Madras Community Center at the Healing Circle Memorial from 9 to 10:30. The gathering marks Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day—a National Day of Recognition held annually to honor the mothers, fathers, and families who have lost loved ones in service to our country. Organizers encourage neighbors to drop by during the morning hours to pay their respects, spend a quiet moment by the fire, and support local Gold Star families.
The Metolius Friends Food Pantry at 575 Hood Ave is open today from 9AM to 12PM and again from 2 to 4PM.
Warm Springs Diabetes Prevention will have Strong Camp for youth on Monday (9/28) and Wednesday (9/30) at the old elementary school gym. Camp for 3rd-5th grades is from 5:30-7pm and the grade 6-8 camp is from 7 until 8:30pm.
Warm Springs Community Health’s Mobile Medical Clinic will be located at the Shelter Dining Hall on Tuesday (9/29) from 9-11:30AM. They can help with medical problems, medications, STI tests, and – by appointment – procedures. Walk-ins and appointments are welcome. Call 541-553-2352 to schedule.
Papalaxsimisha is inviting high school seniors and their families to a financial aid assistance night. A college financial specialist will be on-site to answer questions and help families get started on their application. It’s on Thursday, October 1st at the old school cafeteria. Dinner will be provided at 5:30 and the meeting is from 6-8.
The 2027 Warm Springs Tribal Employee Open Enrollment Period runs from October 1st through the 29th. Enrolling in an Allegiance Flexible Spending Account lets you set aside tax-free dollars from your paycheck to pay for out-of-pocket medical costs or eligible child care expenses. High Desert Food & Farm Alliance is inviting community members to a seed swap and pumpkin painting event on Thursday, October 1st from 4:30-6:30pm at the Community Wellness Center in the social hall. Pumpkins will be provided by DD Ranch in Terrebonne; produce comes from Seed to Table & dried herbs from Toto’s Farm in Wolfe Point. Dinner will be provided by Sandra Greene & family. It’s free and family friendly.
Warm Springs Nation Little League is looking for volunteers to help clean up the softball and baseball fields. Bring any useful tools, equipment or skills Saturday, October 3rd and Saturday, October 10th 10am to 2pm behind the Community Center.
The Madras Aquatic Center Recreation District Board is hosting a listening session on Saturday, October 3rd from 11am to 12:30pm at the Jefferson County Commissioners meeting room located at 66 SE D Street in Madras. You are invited to attend and share what you’d like to see for the future of MACRD.
All Pathways of Recovery potluck & speaker meeting will be held Saturday, October 3rd from 5-7:30pm at the Recovery Community Center, located at 43 NW Cherry Lane, Suite 104 in Madras. Bring your favorite dish or side if you would like to – it is not required. The Recovery Community Center is for adults 18 and older. This is a community recovery event and is not affiliated with AA, NA or any specific recovery fellowship.
BendFilm and the Wyam Youth Center will feature a screening of the movie Smoke Signals in Warm Springs on Friday, October 9th at 4:30. Actress Tantoo Cardinal, who plays Arlene Joseph (Victor’s Mom) in the film, will be in attendance for a panel and meet & greet after the screening. Following that, at 7:30, they will also show a Narrative Shorts Showcase screening to kick off Wyam Event for Bend Film Festival. Saturday, October 10th at 5pm BendFilm will show The River Remembers & First Descent: Kayaking the Klamath at 5pm, and then a Documentary Shorts Showcase at 7.
