Community Calendar for Tuesday March 5, 2019

  • It’s Dr. Seuss Spirit Week at Warm Springs Head Start. Today is “Clash Day.” Tomorrow will be Dr. Seuss Character Day, Thursday is Opposite Day and Friday is Crazy Hair Day.
  • The Jefferson County Food Bank is located at 556 SE Seventh Street in Madras. They are open for distribution this afternoon.
  • Voc Rehab in Warm Springs will hold an orientation session today at 3:00 in Behavioral Health Center conference room. Those who cannot make it to one of the scheduled weekly sessions can call 541-553-4952 to request a one-on-one orientation.
  • The Head Start Culture Committee meets today at 3:30 at ECE.
  • There is a Pathways Home Native Home Ownership class this evening from 5:30-7:30 at the Credit Building.
  • The Warm Springs Community Action Team will host a Tribal Council candidates’ forum on Economic Development for Seekseequa and Agency District candidate this evening at the Agency Longhouse. Dinner is at 5:30 and the forum starts at 6:30. KWSO will air the forum live.
  • There is a Wellbriety Warriors Accepting Recovery meeting this evening from 6:30-8:30 at the Community Center Social Hall. It is open to anyone seeking sobriety and wellness.

Wednesday 3/6

  • The Land Use Planning Committee will meet tomorrow from 9am until noon in conference room 3 at the Administration Building.

There is a free workshop to learn about the basics of online job searching on Friday at 10am in the Computer Lab located on the top floor of the Education Building. Call 553-3324 for more details.

COCC’s First Nations Student Union invites the community to the documentary film screening of “Fractured Land” at the Madras COCC campus Monday March 11 from noon to 2pm. A light lunch will be provided. The film follows one man’s fight against destructive fracking operations in British Columbia. It is free and open to the public.

A Jefferson County Veterans Service Outreach officer will be in Warm Springs at the Warm Springs Senior Center on March 19th. Appointments are available for the morning by calling 541-475-5228. Otherwise, the Veteran’s Service Officer will be available to answer questions during and after the senior meal that day.

The Central Oregon Photo Voice Project is looking for Warm Springs youth to participate. The Photo Voice Project uses pictures to tell a story and communicate the impact of nicotine use in their community.  For more information call or text Katie at 541-233-9177.
