SALEM, Ore. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley of Oregon says he has decided against seeking the Democratic nomination for president and instead wants to focus on getting re-elected senator in 2020. Merkley told The Associated Press that he wants to use his Senate seat and his re-election campaign to fight anti-democracy moves including voter suppression, gerrymandering and dark money. He also wants to focus on helping families with health care, education and living-wage jobs and on stemming climate change.

The date for the Miss Warm Springs 2019 Pageant has been set for March 27, starting at 6 pm at the Agency Longhouse. Outgoing Miss Warm Springs Thyreicia Simtustus, her family, and the Pageant Committee welcome all community members to attend the event. Former Miss Warm Springs are encouraged to attend in regalia and your crown. Individuals interested in running for the Miss Warm Springs title must submit completed applications by March 22nd at 5 pm to be eligible. The Central Oregon Youth Conservation Corps is taking applications for 16-18 year olds who want to work on outdoor conservation work and earn school credit.  The 8 week season begins in June and there will be crews based in Warm Springs, Madras, Bend, Redmond, Sisters, Prineville, Crescent and La Pine. Work days will typically be Monday thru Thursday from 7am to 4:30pm. Some of the projects could include building fences, maintaining trails and campgrounds, fire fuels reduction and habitat enhancement. Gov. Kate Brown has ordered all flags at Oregon public institutions to be flown at half-staff on Wednesday, when members of the public and state government will honor the life of Oregon’s 26th Secretary of State Dennis Richardson at the State Capitol in Salem. Flags should be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset that day.

Warm Springs Nation Little League coaches – you have a mandatory meeting this evening at the community center 6pm. If you plan to coach you must attend this meeting. Managers and anyone helping with the team are also required to attend. Parents are welcome to join as well.
