A Warm Springs Tribal Member has been selected as the next Mark O. Hatfield Fellow. The Spirit Mountain Community Fund has selected Robert “Bobby” Ahern. He is a Madras High School graduate and recent graduate of Pacific University where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with an emphasis on political science. In a news release, Ahern says he aspires to become a tribal attorney and has previously interned with the Warm Springs Government Affairs office. He will work in the office of Congressman Earl Blumenauer. Each year, the SMCF sponsors a Congressional Fellowship with a member of the Oregon delegation to enhance the mutual understanding between leadership in Washington, D.C. and Indian Country. Ahern is the fifth Warm Springs Tribal member to be selected for the program since its inception. Previous fellows include Direlle Calica, Alyssa Macy, Bodie Shaw, and Mary Bodine. The Hatfield Fellowship was created in 1998 to honor Senator Mark O. Hatfield’s public service to Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.
