Homes in the Simnasho and Schoolie Flat areas are under a Level 3 evacuation notice to leave now, as the Nena Springs fire picks up steam this afternoon. The Red Cross Evacuation Center is located at the Warm Springs Community Center.
Highway 3 from Kah-Nee-Ta to Simnasho is now closed to all traffic. No vehicles are being allowed in and no residents are allowed in. The road is open only for fire fighting apparatus.
Homes along Highway 3 area from Schoolie Flat to the Kah-Nee-Ta Junction, Charley Canyon & Kah-Nee-Ta have been issued a Level 1 evacuation notice to monitor fire activity and be ready to leave if needed
As of noon today (8/10/17) the Nena Springs wildfire, burning near Simnasho on the Warm Springs Reservation, is estimated to be at 21,000 acres and continues to be most active between Highway 3, the S300 and S310 roads.
Local wildland and fire department crews continue to work the fire with structural support from Central Oregon mutual aid. The Warm Springs Fire Management Agency met with a type 2 incident commant team, “NW Team 12”, out of Washington State. Team 12 will be assuming command of the fire.
