The Independent Lens documentary Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World premieres tonight on PBS. It will feature many legendary music icons that had Native roots and how Native American musicians have transformed American blues, jazz and rock. Oregon Public Broadcasting will show it at 10:30 tonight on OPB TV.
SALEM, Oregon — The Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs (ODVA) and Confederated Tribes of Umatilla Indian Reservation signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the Oregon State Capitol this week that will enable the tribal government to establish its first-ever tribal veteran service office. The agreement helps ensure more tribal veterans are receiving the highest level of physical, mental and behavioral health care, with the support and assistance of federal VA’s Office of Tribal Government Relations. This is the second tribal veteran service office to be established in the state of Oregon. The first was created through an MOU signed with the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs last August.
Construction is expected to begin today on a highway improvement project on US26 on the Warm Springs Reservation, from milepost 99 to milepost 103. Oregon Department of Transportation says the $3.25 million project will repave this section of highway. During construction motorists can expect: Lane shifts utilizing temporary concrete barrier. Occasional lane closures controlled by flaggers. Delays up to 20 minutes. And limited Duration Road Closures on various Tuesdays thru Thursdays between 1-3pm. The project is expected to wrap up this Summer.
