The Warm Springs Nation major softball team lost to Redmond Thursday 3-4. The girls took second place at the District 5 tournament. BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Wildlife advocates are seeking a court order that would force U.S. officials to consider if grizzly bears should be restored to more Western states following the animals’ resurgence in the Northern Rockies. Grizzly bears are protected as a threatened species outside Alaska. An estimated 1,900 bears live in portions of Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Washington state. In a lawsuit filed Thursday in federal court in Montana, the Center for Biological Diversity said grizzlies should also be considered for areas of California, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada and Oregon.
Senator John Hoeven, chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs today said eleven Indian bills were approved the US Senate. Included in those eleven bills were S. 50, the Columbia River In-Lieu and Treaty Fishing Access Sites Improvement Act and S. 832 to nullify the Supplemental Treaty Between the United States of American and Confederated tribes and Bands of Indians of Middle Oregon, concluded on November 15, 1865. These bills will now move to the House of Representatives for consideration.
We celebrate fifty years of the Piumesha Treaty Days this weekend in Warm Springs. New this year will be a horse parade just ahead of the traditional parade on Saturday, which starts at 11. The parade will honor the founding members of Piumesha. Because there are still showers and water distribution happening at the old elementary school, the parade starting place has been changed. Lineup and the parade will start in front of the Family Resource Center and Presbyterian Church.
