The 2020 Census begins April 1st.   The U.S. Census counts all residents in the United States every 10 years.  The Warm Springs Complete Count Committee encourages everyone to be counted.

The Central Oregon Basketball Organization or COBO is now registering Boys and Girls in Grades 5th through 8th.  The deadline to register is next Monday November 11th.  You must register your athlete online at Jefferson County COBO There is a scholarship available up to $150. Become a SMART Reader.  SMART stands for “start making a reader today” and is a volunteer program that pairs readers with 1st grade students in Warm Springs –  On Thursdays from 4-5pm at the Warm Springs K-8 Academy afterschool 21st Century Learning Program.  If you are interested – call 541-797-7726.

Now is the time for students planning to attend college or technical school next fall by completing the requirements for the Tribal Scholarship which includes filing a FAFSA for financial assistance. Details are now available at KWSO.org – click on the slide that says Tribal Scholarship.

The Warm Springs temporary warming shelter plans to be open today and tomorrow due to nighttime temperatures forecast to be below 32 degrees.  The shelter is open from 7pm to 7am at the Warm Springs Youth Center in the old Elementary gym building.  Use the entrance on the side by the basketball court.

Family University presents a Free Personal Financial Course, where professionals in the field of banking will provide an introduction series of classes to help you manage your money and provide answers to money questions. This course will take place at the Jefferson County Middle School in Madras tomorrow November 7th, 14th and 21st from 6:15pm-7:15pm.  To register you can call 541-460-2824

There is an Agricultural Seminar November 13th held at Inn at Cross Keys from 9:30am-2:30pm with lunch provided. This seminar is provided by SAIF, who is Oregon’s not-for-profit workers’ compensation insurance company.  On the list of topics are “PPE and your respiratory program”, “staying on top of your work”, “Safety leadership for supervisors, trainers and other leaders”, and “Analyze This…!”. The Annual Fall book fair at the Warm Springs K thru 8 is starting on Friday November 8th and will end on Friday November 15th. It will be open from 7:45am-4pm most days, however will be open until 7pm on the 13th and 14th during parent/teacher conferences.

The MHS Music Department is holding a concert in honor of our veterans tomorrow in the Madras Performing Arts Center at 7pm. WE ARE ONE: Features the Madras High School Symphonic Band and Madras High School Chamber Choir. All are welcome, there will be reserved seating for veterans. A $10 donation is suggested at the door or a donation of 3 canned food items

The Warm Springs Health and Wellness Center will hold a Lunch and Learn activity tomorrow which will cover high blood pressure care and prevention at 12pm. The topics will include, the signs symptoms and causes of high blood pressure, how to work with your physician to get a proper diagnosis, the benefits of self-monitoring and Treatment Options. Lunch will be provided. There will also be a Food Handler’s Class from 2pm-4pm in the Health & Wellness Center Atrium. The next Food Handler’s Class will be on Thur Nov 21st from 10am-12pm. Students in need of school supplies can pick some up at the Warm Springs Library in the Family Resource Center.  Basic supplies are available to students during the library’s regular business hours.

The Warm Springs Community Action team is hosting a three day Financial Education Opportunity Wednesday, Thursday and Friday  November 20th thru the 22nd 9am – 4pm each day at the Agency Longhouse.  They will offer the entire Financial Skills for Families class over the three days.  The class is a requirement for Oregon IDA initiative clients.  If you need to make up part of the series – this is a great chance to do that.  Contact Nettie to sign up for the modules you need.  There will also be a chance to participate in the Vital Tribal Economies Survey.   Call 541-553-3148 if you have any questions.
