The County line 2 fire, started on Wednesday the 12th, in the afternoon. It started along Hwy 26, with multiple starts, on both sides of the Highway. With the weather conditions at the time, these fires quickly exceeded the capabilities of the local resources, and their mutual aid. The State Fire Marshal’s office, sent their Blue Management Team, along with 8 task force contingents, to help with structure protection. Oregon Interagency Incident Management Team #1, was also ordered, for the wild land component. This fire has gone through changing levels of evacuations, and numerous challenges. The Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Blue Team were released on August 19th. The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Type III Incident Management Team (IMT) will assume responsibility for the fire at 6am on Thursday September 3rd.
The fire has burned 67,207 acres. It is at 88% containment and 480 personnel are assigned. Today’s activities will include continuing with direct line construction and mop-up operations. Patrols will continue on the north, south and east side of the fire. Monitoring of established lines and checking for spot fires will continue. In addition, crews will be removing un-needed equipment (“back haul”) from the fire lines. There still is the possibility for new spot fires from burning or falling snags, rolling material and tree torching. Otherwise low to moderate fire activity is expected today.
