The $1.3 trillion spending bill that Congress passed last week, contains increases for tribal economic development and community initiatives. Also included is $2.4B for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, an increase of $203M compared to 2017, and $914M for the Bureau of Indian Education, an increase of $22M from the year prior.

Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley has scheduled a town hall for Jefferson County on April 4^th.  The town hall will be held in Warm Springs at K-8 Academy. He will update residents on his work in Washington, D.C., and answer questions, and hear suggestions about how to tackle the challenges facing Oregon and America. Since joining the Senate in 2009, Merkley has held a town hall in each of Oregon’s 36 counties every year.

A second planning meeting to discuss the Downtown Development Plan for Warm Springs is happening tomorrow. It will be from 4-6:00 at the Old Elementary School Gym. All community members are encouraged to attend and provide input. The goal is to finalize a development plan for the area by the end of summer. The plan will then be used to seek funding and investment opportunities.  Folks can also submit comments in writing to the Planning Department at the Tribal Administration Building.
