The N’chi wana Pum Canoe Family has announce dates for this summer’s canoe journey.  The group meets twice monthly on 1st & 3rd Wednesdays.  Tomorrow (4/18/18) they will meet at 5:30 at the Greeley Heights Community Building.  Anyone interested in becoming involved with the canoe family should attend to learn more.  You need to be able to commit to practices, meetings and fundraising.  The Canoe journey this year will begin July 19^th at Wallowa Lake in Nez Perce country.  They will then travel to Celilo – pulling from Rock Creek to Celilo then to Horse Thief then on to Hood River.  On July 24^th they will pull from Hood River to Cascade Locks followed by a pull to Camas. And then on to Fort Vancouver on the 26^th.  The final leg will be from Muckleshoot to Puyallup to complete this year’s journey.

The Madras High School Drama program presents Beauty and the Beast this weekend at the Performing Arts Center.  The student production features live music accompaniment as well as acting, singing and staging.  The final two shows are Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 7 Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and students.

The U-S Forest Service is planning to allow salvage logging on parts of the area burned in last summer’s Chetco Bar fire in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest in southwest Oregon. The fire – Oregon’s largest last year – burned just over one-hundred-91 thousand acres. Managers are trying to find the sweet spot between capturing some of the economic value of trees killed and damaged in the fire, and protecting fish and water quality in the Chetco River. George Sexton — with the Klamath-Siskiyou Wildlands Center – says their preferred alternative would emphasize post-fire logging in areas previously logged to help protect the watershed.   That alternative would cut less than half the 4-thousand-90 acres the Forest Service proposes … The Forest Service’s Jessie Berner says that’s not enough for others – seeking a larger area to salvage.  The Forest Service is accepting public comments until May 16th. They hope to make a decision and start the project before late summer.

The Portland Trail Blazers lost home court advantage in their Western Conference first round series Saturday night at the Moda Center. They won’t have the opportunity to get home court back in Game 2, though evening the series would get them on the right path.  Facing a 0-1 deficit in their best-of-seven series, the Trail Blazers host the Pelicans tonight in Game 2 of the three-six matchup at the Moda Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
