The N’Chi Wanapum Canoe Family is beginning the Power Paddle to  Puyallup Tribal Canoe Journey. Leaving today today for Wallowa Lake, they will arrive at Celilo Village on Saturday and their journey will include stops in Underwood, Stevenson, Beacon Rock, Fort Vancouver, Auburn and Tacoma, WA which will be the final stop where they will be hosted by the Puyallup Tribe. Warm springs joined the Canoe Journey in 2010, Over the years they have paddled to Makah, Swinomish, Squaxin, and Nisqually.

Indian Head Casino and Plateau Travel Plaza General Managers provided updates recently to Warm Springs Tribal Council. Since opening in mid-March, the travel plaza has sold over 400,000 gallons of gasoline and diesel. The volume of sale is increasing steadily month by month, Eric Angel told Council. Meanwhile the casino and travel plaza are working on additional promotion strategies for the enterprise. Employment was reported on and there were 75 employees at the Plateau Travel Plaza: 56 tribal members; 3 percent married into the tribes; 13 percent other Native; and 28 percent non-tribal. And as of last week there were 12 open positions.
