Since 1944, Smokey Bear has been working hard to inspire Americans to prevent wildfires. Warm Springs is having a 74th birthday celebration for him on Saturday, Aug. 11 from 11-4:00 on the campus area behind Fire & Safety. Smokey’s actual birthday was on Aug. 9th but kids were attending Camp Naimuma and Smokey wants them all to be able to attend his party.
SEATTLE (AP) — A team of whale experts has injected an ailing killer whale with antibiotics in a rare emergency effort to save her. NOAA Fisheries says the international team reached 3½-year-old orca known as J50 Thursday in the waters near Washington state’s San Juan Island.
The Cow Creek fire, aided by wind and extreme heat, burned about 200 acres near Cow Canyon north of Madras in Wasco County Thursday afternoon. The Cow Canyon Fire was reported around 12:45 p.m. between Cow Canyon and the intersection of U.S. highways 97 and 197. As of yesterday evening, fire officials said that forward progress of the fire had been stopped.
Coming up next weekend, an extended family gathering for all direct descendants of Billy Chinook and Annie Holliquilla will take place in Warm Springs.
