Community Calendar for Wednesday April 3, 2019

• Madras High School Skills USA is hosting the Second Annual Community Talent Show at the Performing Arts Center. This evening will be the finals. Doors open at 6:30, shows are at 7. Tickets are being sold at the door.
• Through a partnership with East Cascades Works, Worksource Oregon and COCC – Warm Springs GED received a Grant called the Warm Spring Future Ready Oregon Grant will pay for eligible 2019 Spring Quarter GED students, fees, textbooks, test vouchers, test fees, and incentive payments of $25 per week for attendance.   Students must be co-enrolled with Warm Springs Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act office and Worksource Oregon, and have 100% attendance in all enrolled classes to maintain eligibility for incentive payments.  To enroll contact Melinda Poitra at the education Building  Room 307 or call 541-553-3324
• Spring Term GED class starts this week and will run through June 13^th at the Warm Springs Education Center which is located in the old boys dorm. Anyone interested MUST attend class to register.  It’s mandatory to attend one orientation for math and one for communication to register.  Essentials of Communication class is today 1-4pm and Essentials of Math class is tomorrow from 1-4pm.
• There is Senior Fitness Class this morning at 10:45 at the Senior Center – following class, participants can enjoy a meal. On the menu: zucchini lasagna rollups, salad, bread and rice pudding.
• Lil’ Miss Warm Springs meetings are held on Wednesdays from 6-7:30pm. Participation in the sessions will allow girls to build on their cultural knowledge, develop confidence, public speaking skills and spend time with mentors and peers.  The Lil’ Miss Warm Springs Pageant is tentatively scheduled for May 1^st.
• Warm Springs Christian Fellowship has bible study at 6pm at the Senior Center.
• The Warm Springs Baptist Church has Bible Study and Prayer this evening at 6:00.

Thursday 4/4

• Tribal Council Election Day is tomorrow 8am until 8pm at the Community Center, the Seekseequa Fire Hall and the Simnasho Longhouse. 8 individuals will be voted in to serve on the 28^th Tribal Council.   You can hear KWSO Candidates Program by District this evening at 6 for Agency, 7 for Simnasho and 7:30 for Seekseequa.  Candidate interviews and recordings from forums can also be listened to here at KWSO.org.
• Art Adventure Gallery will have an opening reception tomorrow for its exhibit “Explorations: Discoveries, Stories in Bronze & Oil” by Donald Stastny. It’s from 5:30-7 at the gallery located on 5^th Street in Madras.
• Heart of Oregon YouthBuild is recruiting young people ages 16-24 for its Spring cohort beginning in mid-April.. Members can earn a GED, diploma, college credit and job skills working in the classroom and in the field. Anyone interested must attend an information session to be considered. The next info session is tomorrow from 5-6:30pm in Prineville. Call 541-526-1380 to get details and to sign up.
• COCC is hosting an evening of Native American flute and percussion music at Wille Hall on the Bend Campus tomorrow. Grammy nominees R. Carlos Nakai and Will Clipman will perform from 6-8pm. It’s free and open to the public.

• There is no school this Friday for 509-J students. It is Teacher Grading Day.

A Jefferson County Victims Assistance advocate comes to Warm Springs on the third Wednesday of every month at the Victims of Crime Services office. Folks can get help with things like case assistance, paperwork, and other resources. Appointments can also be made for other times. For information call Ken Clark 541-475-4452 or VOCS 553-2293.

The Johnson O’Malley Committee will cover costs for caps, gowns and tassels for graduates. Pick up J.O.M. Request Forms from Carroll Dick at the Old Boys’ Dorm. J.O.M. Committee is also able to help with an allowance for spring sports – elementary through high school. The deadline to submit a request is April 11^th.
