Community Calendar for Thursday April 18, 2019

  • The Senior Wellness Center is having Senior lunch at noon – on the menu: Cornish hens, brown rice pilaf, lima beans with onions and fruit. Seniors 60 and older eat for free, 59 and under are $5 and youth under 13 are $3 at the Senior Wellness Center.
  • There is an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting today at noon at the counseling center and Narcotics Anonymous meeting at 6pm at the Shaker Church.
  • There is Ichishkin Class today from noon-1:00 at the Museum. Bring your own lunch.
  • There is social dance class today at 4:00 in the Community Center aerobics room.
  • Parent Teacher Conferences are today at the Warm Springs K-8 Academy from 4-6. Dinner will be provided.  It’s also the Warm Springs K8 Kindergarten Welcome and Information Night from 5-6pm. Parents and guardians can meet school administration, tour the school, get students registered and help get them ready for Kindergarten in the fall at the “big school”
  • Tananawit – A Community of Native Artists will hold a kickoff and fundraising event today at the Museum at Warm Springs. A dinner and raffle start at 5, followed by guest speakers and an awards ceremony. It’s free but donations are welcome. There will also be some vendors. On the menu – teriyaki chicken, white rice, tuna mac salad, corn on the cob and sweet rolls.
  • The Redsides powwow is this evening in the Maupin Elementary School Gym. Dinner is at 5pm, please bring a side dish to share.  The powwow fun begins at 6:30 with host drum Black Lodge.

Friday 4/19

  • Head Start classes are having their Easter egg hunts tomorrow. Check with your child’s teacher for times.
  • The Jefferson County Community Film Center will show Green Book, rated PG-13, for its Friday night movie. It’s a free event at 7:30pm in the Rodriguez Annex, next to the library in Madras.

Saturday 4/20

  • Easter Egg Hunts in Warm Springs will be held on Saturday at 10am. Kindergarten age youth and older will hunt on the lawn in front of the Behavioral Health Center. Pre-K will be in the fenced area of the Family Resource Center.
  • The city of Metolius will hold an Easter egg hunt on Saturday at 10am at Metolius City Park. Culver’s annual Easter egg hunt is Saturday at the Culver Veterans Memorial Park at 1pm. And the Madras Elks Lodge’s annual Easter egg hunt is on Sunday at 1pm at Sahalee Park in Madras.

Easter Sunday Services will held at The Door Christian Fellowship Church, 2315 Hollywood Blvd, in Warm Springs. Services begin at 11am. For information contact Pastor Desmond Wheeler 541-419-7521.

The Native Youth Exploring Higher Education summer camp at Washington State University is taking applications now through June 15th. The free camp is July 15-19 and is open to students who will enter grades 9-10 in the fall. It’s for students to learn about college opportunities and education. The 30th Annual Honor Senior Day is May 10th at the Agency Longhouse. Everyone is welcome to attend and if you want to be on theme – wear your boots, chaps and cowboy hats! Contact the Senior Program if you would like to help out – 541-553-3313.

Indian Head Casino & Plateau Travel Plaza will hold a Relay for Life Jefferson County 4-person golf scramble tournament fundraiser on Saturday, May 18th at Desert Peaks Golf Course in Madras. For information contact Janell Smith 541-325-1472.

A Small Business Conference will be hosted by the Warm Springs Chamber of Commerce and Community Action Team on May 4th at the Community Center starting at 8:30 that morning. It will focus on maintaining successful businesses on the reservation. FMI: Dustin Seyler 541-553-3148.
