Community Calendar for Wednesday May 1, 2019
- The Land Use Planning committee will meet today at 9am at the Tribal Admin Building, conference room 3.
- Today is the deadline for applications for youth ages 16–18 to work on the Central Oregon Youth Conservation Corps Crews this summer. They have positions to fill in Warm Springs, Madras, Prineville, and several other locations. They are looking for crew members and adult crew leaders. Get details and apply at heartoforegon.org.
- A five-week Financial Skills for Families Course will begin today. Classes will be Wednesday evenings from 5:30-7:30 at the Warm Springs Community Action Building. To register call 541-553-3148 or send them a Facebook message.
- A public meeting to learn about the Tribes’ change from recreation cannabis to hemp will take place this evening at 6:00 at the Greeley Heights Community Building. There will also be information on the change of location and greenhouse size. All are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be provided.
- Warm Springs Christian Fellowship has bible study at 6pm at the Senior Center.
- The Warm Springs Baptist Church has Bible Study and Prayer this evening at 6:00.
Thursday 5/2
- A National Day of Prayer meeting for Warm Springs will take place on Thursday from noon until 1:00 at the Presbyterian Church.
- The Fish Wildlife Committee has a meeting tomorrow from 3-5pm at the Tribal Admin Building, conference room 3.
- The first Downtown Madras Park & Play First Thursday event of the year is tomorrow. It’s a street fair with local vendors, music and food along 5th Street in Madras Thursday from 5-9pm.
- The 2019 Glow Fun 5K Run and 1-mile walk is tomorrow at the Warm Springs Health & Wellness Center. Sign-ins start at 7:30 and the races at 8:15. Fruit, water and glow items will be provided.
Friday 5/3
- Tananawit and the Warm Springs Community Action Team are hiring a part-time Warm Springs Outdoor Market Coordinator. The deadline to submit resumes is this Friday. You can submit them to emily@wscat.org or at the Community Action Team Office. Call at 541-553-3148 if you have any questions.
- The Jefferson County Library Film Center will show the movie Black Panther, rated PG-13, for its Friday night movie. It’s free to attend. It will be shown at 7:30 in the Rodriguez Annex next to the Library.
A Small Business Conference is being hosted by the Warm Springs Chamber of Commerce and Community Action Team this Saturday at the Community Center starting at 8:30 that morning. It will focus on maintaining successful businesses on the reservation. FMI: Dustin Seyler 541-553-3148.
Mt. Hood Meadows is having its Seasons End Festival on Saturday. It’s live music on the Mt. Hood Meadows Sun Deck from 11 AM to 4 PM that day, rain or shine. There will be dancing, food, drinks and music.
Students interested in the Summer Work Program in Warm Springs should complete an application at the Work Experience Development Department at Education Building. Native American students ages 14-24, who are enrolled in traditional and alternative high school are eligible – the deadline is May 23rd. College students of any age may apply and they have until June 27th. Contact the WEDD office at 541-553-3324 for details.
A Jefferson County Victims Assistance advocate comes to Warm Springs Victims of Crime Services office on the third Wednesday of each month. Folks can get help with things like case assistance, paperwork, and other resources. Appointments can also be made for other times. For information call Ken Clark 541-475-4452 or VOCS 553-2293.
The Meth & Opiate Work Group is sponsoring a community education class on Sweathouse and Spirituality on May 9th at the Community Center. There will be a dinner at 5:30 and presentation at 6, plus information booths and door prizes.
Warm Springs Recreation will have its spring yards sale on Saturday, May 11th from 9am to 4pm at the Community Center. Tables are limited. Call the Rec office at 541-553-3243 to reserve.
