May 21st is Election Day in Oregon – that’s next Tuesday. If you are a registered voter still hanging on to your ballot, be sure and mark it return it to an official ballot drop box by 8pm on Tuesday. In Warm Springs the ballot drop box is on Campus across the street from the Post Office.
There is a Boil Water Notice in effect for the Warm Springs Agency area. Repair work on a water main break resulted in water being turned off for several homes and businesses Wednesday. Water has not yet been restored to the Campus area of Warm Springs as a part is on order. They do expect to restore the water by noon today. The water boil order remains in effect – and community members are asked to conserve water use as to not deplete water supplied in tanks. Please skip lawn watering or other large water use until all repairs on the water main break are completed – the system is flushed and the EPA gives the go ahead to lift the water boil order – which likely will be Monday.
The Yakama Nation will honor female veterans at a Friday event. It will take place at Legends Casino, beginning at 10 a.m. with members of the Yakama Warriors Association leading a procession of female veterans into the events center. Along with the presentation of colors and special honors for female veterans, informational booths and a salmon luncheon are planned. All veterans are encouraged to attend. The event will highlight World War II veteran Virginia Beavert, who assisted in the war effort for four years with the Army Air Forces.
World War II Medal of Honor recipient Robert Dale “Bob” Maxwell, who died Saturday in Bend, will be buried May 31 at the end of two days of public events, according to the Bend Bulletin. A Remembrance with Honors memorial ceremony will be held May 31 at noon in the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center in Redmond. Interment with full military honors will immediately follow the memorial Friday. The funeral will be at Terrebonne Cemetery. Maxwell died of natural causes at the age of 98.
