Community Calendar for Monday May 20, 2019

  • The boil water order remains in effect for those in Warm Springs on the Agency Water System. Additional water samples will be collected for testing today.  The boil order will be in place until the EPA gives approval for it to be lifted.  Folks should boil water for use by bringing water to a rolling boil for three minutes to use for cooking, drinking, brushing teeth and washing dishes.
  • Warm Springs Early Childhood Education will remain closed until the boil water order is lifted.
  •  The Work Experience & Development Department is having an application workshop today for those who have not turned in an application for the Summer Youth Work Program. Stop by the WEDD office in the Education Building for more information.
  • Tribal Council will meet today – on the morning agenda are the June agenda, travel delegations and minutes review, draft resolutions and enrollments. This afternoon is a legislative update call and an update from Warm Springs Ventures.
  • It is a regular late start Monday for 509J schools this morning.
  • Warm Springs Sanitation reminds residents to place their tote at the road. This will help them save time so they can do all the scheduled pick up with the staff and equipment they have available right now.  If you have questions – call the landfill at 553-3163.
  • Senior fitness class is this morning at 10:45 at the Senior Center. Participants are invited to eat brunch after – today they are having ­­­ potato leek soup, crackers, beef kabobs and fruit.
  • There is Women’s Prayer Group at the Presbyterian Church from 12:15-12:45 today. All women are welcome.
  • Warm Springs Community Health at the Health & Wellness Center has a Behavior Health Clinic every Monday and Friday, walk-in appointments are available between 1 and 5pm. Services available include screenings, assessments, crisis intervention, and referrals to seek mental health and medical care, substance abuse treatment or other community resources. Children, adolescents and adults are welcome.
  • There is a senior citizen volunteer appreciation meal today at 1pm at the Senior Center.
  • The Fish & Wildlife Committee will meet today at 3pm at the Tribal Admin Building, conference room 3.
  • The Vocational Rehabilitation Program will have an orientation session today at 3:00 in the Culture & Heritage Building conference room, 2nd Those who cannot make it to one of the scheduled weekly sessions, call 541-553-4952 to  request a one-on-one orientation.
  • Warm Springs Nation Little League games today – Warriors play in Madras and Major Baseball play at Sisters. Junior Baseball plays in Madras.  In Tee Ball Play today: The A’s play the Braves in front of Community Counseling & the Gamblers and Dodgers play at Elmer Quinn Park.

Tuesday 5/21

  • Tomorrow is election day and on the ballot are local board seats including for JCSD 509J. There is also a Jefferson County Jail operations levy.  For your ballot to be counted it needs to be turned in by May 21, 2019 8pm at an official ballot drop box.  Boxes are located at the Jefferson County Clerk’s office, Culver City Hall, Metolius City Hall, Crook River Ranch Admin Building, and in Warm Springs on Campus across the street from the Post Office.
  • A Jefferson County Veterans Service Outreach officer will be at the Warm Springs Senior Center tomorrow. Appointments are available for the morning by calling 541-475-5228. Otherwise, the Veteran’s Service Officer will be available to answer questions during and after the senior meal that day.
  • The Range Committee meets tomorrow at 9am at the Tribal Admin Building, conference room 3.

Wednesday 5/22

  • Warm Springs Recreation is hosting the Lil’ Miss Warm Springs Pageant on Wednesday. There’s a dinner at 5pm and the pageant will follow at the Community Center.

Wildfires can happen anywhere, anytime. Risk of a wildfire increases with periods of little rain and high winds.  Fire season is coming soon – so take steps now to protect your home by cleaning up the space around your home, removing anything that can burn within 5 feet of your house.  This is one thing you can do to be prepared for wildfire season.

The Native Youth Exploring Higher Education summer camp at Washington State University is taking applications now through June 15th. The free camp is July 15-19 and is open to students who will enter grades 9-10 in the fall. It’s for students to learn about college opportunities and education. The 3rd Annual Ich’inun Summer Jam Powwow Slam is May 30th at the Warm Springs K-8 Academy. It’s a social powwow from 6-9pm honoring all 2019 graduates. All drums and dancers are welcome. The public is welcome.
