Community Calendar for Wednesday May 22, 2019

  • Tribal Council meets this morning and will hear updates from the Museum, Housing Authority, and Composites. Updates continue this afternoon with updates from IHS, BIA & Office of Special Trustee, Culture & Heritage Committee and Fish & Wildlife Committee.
  • There is Senior Fitness Class this morning at 10:45 at the Senior Center – following class, participants can enjoy a meal. On the menu: bowtie chicken alfredo, peas, bread and fruit smoothies.
  • Mom, Dad & Baby Group is today from 2-3pm at the Family Resource Center. This is for all parents, families & caregivers who take care of a baby or young child.   They offer a snack, an activity, a craft and breastfeeding support.  To learn more contact MCH Nurse Allie Anderson at 541-553-2460.
  • Warm Springs Nation Little League games today – Major Baseball hosts Culver. Tee Ball Teams have practice today.
  • Warm Springs Recreation is hosting the Lil’ Miss Warm Springs Pageant this evening. There’s a dinner at 5pm and the pageant will follow at the Community Center. Former Lil’ Miss Warm Springs are all invited to participate in an honor dance to open the pageant tonight at 6pm.
  • Warm Springs Christian Fellowship has bible study at 6pm at the Senior Center.
  • The Warm Springs Baptist Church has Bible Study and Prayer this evening at 6:00.

Thursday 5/23

  • The Health & Welfare Committee is conducting a Community Satisfaction Survey tomorrow at the Simnasho Longhouse from 6-7pm; and again Tuesday, May 28th in the Community Center Social Hall from 5:30-7pm. The information gathered will help guide upcoming efforts.

Friday 5/24

  • Jefferson County and Culver first graders’ annual Gift of Literacy event is this Friday from 9:30am to 1pm at the Performing Arts Center. Students will meet children’s author Eric Kimmel who will lead them in creating stories of their own. Kids will also meet book characters Pete the Cat and Splat the Cat, reading and art projects and games.
  • The Jefferson County Library Film Center will show the movie Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool, rated R, for its Friday night movie. It’s free to attend. It will be shown at 7:30 in the Rodriguez Annex next to the Library.

Be prepared for fire season by creating a GO KIT in case you have to evacuate due to a wildfire.  In addition to including a change of clothes and valuables, make sure you have any needed medications,   prescriptions, documents, identification, insurance cards and a printed list of contact phone numbers. This is one thing you can do to be prepared for wildfire season.

The next Downtown Madras Park & Play First Thursday event is coming up on June 6th. It’s a street fair with local vendors, music and food along 5th Street in Madras June 6th from 5-9pm. Interested vendors can download an application online.

The 1910 Indian Shaker Church is accepting donations of clothing and other items for its rummage sale fundraisers. If you would like to donate, contact Josie Williams 360-640-8221.

The Boys and Girls Club of Warm Springs is doing a Squares raffle with the drawing set for June 14th.  Money raised will support club operations.  Squares are $10 each and the winner will take half the pot.  There are 100 squares in all.  You can stop by the club to purchase your square.

The US Census Bureau is hiring census takers for the 2020 Census in Warm Springs. Hourly wages are around $15 an hour with weekly paydays. This income will not affect a person’s TANF or SNAP benefits or HUD eligibility. Applications are due by May 31. Apply online or call 1-855-562-2020 for assistance.
