NEXT WEEK…  MUCH COLDER WEATHER IS EXPECTED SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY AS A LOW
PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVES INTO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. DAYTIME HIGHS
WILL BE IN THE 40S TO MID 50S. OVERNIGHT LOWS WILL BE IN 20S TO
MID 30S. THIS STORM WILL BRING PERIODS OF RAIN AND SNOW THROUGH
MONDAY. SNOW LEVELS WILL BE IN THE 2000 TO 4000 FOOT RANGE. THE
LOWER SNOW LEVELS WILL LIKELY OCCUR AT NIGHT. ACCUMULATIONS ARE
EXPECTED FOR THE MID AND HIGHER ELEVATIONS.

Officials say a critical navigation lock at the Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River will reopen to barge traffic between Friday night and Saturday morning depending on the results of final operation testing. Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Portland, Oregon, said Thursday their engineers are inspecting and testing the lock and newly-repaired concrete sill. The navigation lock was closed Sept. 5 after operators detected problems and investigation revealed cracked concrete.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown says a second Oregonian has died from a vaping-related lung illness. In a statement Thursday, the governor said the Oregon Health Authority informed her of the death. State health authorities urged people to immediately stop using all vaping products.

From the Columbia in Oregon to the Nile in Egypt, rivers sustain life. This Sunday – On World Rivers Day – the Oregon Zoo, the US Fish and Wildlife Service Pacific Region, the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission, and tribal partners will celebrate these vital habitats with cultural events and conservation activities throughout the zoo, including the official grand opening of the zoo’s Pacific lamprey habitat. As part of this event, the zoo is extending free admission to all American Indian/Alaska Natives for both World Rivers Day (Sept. 29) AND Indigenous Peoples’ Day (Oct. 14) with proof of tribal affiliation or descendant status (tribal ID, CDIB, etc.). Free admission will be offered for up to four family members per card.

It’s Homecoming at Madras High School tonight.  The White Buffalo are hosting Dayton in their last non-league game of the season.  The White Buffaloes are coming off 2 weeks of losses and coach Taylor says the key to winning will be more discipline and less mistakes:
