Nena Springs Fire Update 08/17/17

Updaate 9:42pm

An ember from the Nena Springs Wildfire blew out of the containment lines near Kishwalk around 3:20 this afternoon (8/17/17) . Driven by high winds, the fire is running in grass and brush.

It has jumped highway 3 on the fish hatchery grade. The fire moved through Charley Canyon earlier this evening and made it’s way past Kah-Nee-ta – where guests and employees are sheltered in place. Firefighters lit back burns to protect the resort.

The fire continues to move east pushed by steady winds, heading toward the Deschutes River

Public Safety Officials have issued Level 3 evacuation notices for: Charley Canyon , Kah-Nee-Ta, Culpus Bridge, South Junction and Wolfe Point and all roads in that area are closed.

The Red Cross is establishing an evacuation shalter at the Warm Springs Community Center for residents in need.

Update 8:45pm

Webster Flat Road and Culpus Bridge is now closed to all traffic. The Nena Springs Fire, which escaped containment lines this afternoon, has caused Level 3 Evacuation notices at Charley Canyon, Kah-Nee-Ta, Culpus Bridge, South Junction and Wolfe Point. All roads are closed in those areas.

The Red Cross is establishing an evacaion center at the Warm Springs Community Center for residents that hae been evacuated due to the fire.

170 firefighters are on the fireline. Updates on 91.9 FM every half hour this evening.

Update 7:52 PM

The Nena Springs Wildfire is moving quickly right now through dry grass has passed through Charley Canyon. They are now at a Level 3 evacuation notice. It’s Level 3 for Kah-Nee-Ta Resort where staff and guests are sheltered in place. Public Safety Officials have now increased Wolfe Point to a Level 3 Notice to evacuate now.

Everyone is asked to avoid the area to let firefighter have free access for apparatus. We will keep updating here and on the air at 91.9 FM.

UPDATE 08/17/17 6:00PM

At approximately 3:20pm today, an ember from the Nena Springs Fire blew out of containment lines near Kishwalk. Driven by high winds, the fire is running in grass and brush.

Officials have raised the evacuation level for Charlie Canyon homes to a Level 2, so residents should be ready to leave. Kah-Nee-Ta is also at a Level 2 Evacuation Level, but those residents and guests will “shelter in place” if necessary. A Level 1 Evacuation Order has been issued for Culpus Bridge to South Junction and Wolf Point.

Highway 3 from the Kah-Nee-Ta Junction to Schoolie Flat and Highway 8 from the Kah-Nee-Ta Junction to the Village are closed to all traffic. Highway 8 is open from the Village to Culpus Bridge & Wolf Point.
