Snow fell most of the daylight hours this weekend (January 7 & 8, 2017) resulting in snow covered roads and dangerous driving conditions. Because of the time needed to adequately clear roads, parking lots and sidewalks, the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, Bureau of Indian Affairs (Warm Springs Agency) and the Warm Springs Indian Health Services Clinic will remain closed on Monday January 9, 2017.
The Jefferson County 509-J & South Wasco County School Districts have cancelled school Monday in Warm Springs, Madras, Metolious & Maupin.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning that remains in effect until 4am Monday Morning. About 2 feet of snow has fallen since last week and with temperatures remaining below the freezing mark – the snow has piled up.
The Oregon State Police report they have responded to over 750 traffic incidents statewide in the past 36 hours. Public Safety officials urge motorists to only travel if absolutely necessary.
The Warming Shelter in Warm Springs remains open at the Agency Longhouse for anyone in need of a warm place to stay. Volunteers continue to provide 3 meals daily.
