Community Calendar for Monday March 11, 2019
- It is a regular late start Monday for 509J schools this morning.
- The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act office in Warm Springs is offering drop-in services where you can get individual help with employment services such as filing for unemployment, resumes & cover letters, help with job applications and more. The WIOA office is located in the Education Building, top floor. No appointments are needed, stop by today between 9am and 4pm, they are closed for lunch at noon.
- Today in Tribal Council they will review minutes and resolutions, get updates from Tribal Attorneys and hear a presentation on Census 2020. After lunch will be the IRMP 3, and update on the UAS from Ventures, an update on the Financial Strategies Operating Agreement and the Ventures Board.
- There is Senior Fitness Class today at 10:45am at the Senior Center. Participants are invited to eat a meal after – today they are having carne asada quesadillas.
- Today’s fitness classes are Functional fitness at the Community Center and Pi-Yo in the clinic atrium – both start at 12:10.
- The Warm Springs Native Aspirations Prevention Coalition will hold its monthly meeting today at noon at the Emergency Management Building.
- COCC’s First Nations Student Union invites the community to the documentary film screening of “Fractured Land” at the Madras COCC campus today from noon to 2pm. A light lunch will be provided. The film follows one man’s fight against destructive fracking operations in British Columbia. It is free and open to the public.
- There is Women’s Prayer Group at the Presbyterian Church from 12:15-12:45 today. All women are welcome.
- Warm Springs Community Health at the Health & Wellness Center has a Behavior Health Clinic every Monday and Friday, walk-in appointments are available between 1 and 5pm. Services available include screenings, assessments, crisis intervention, and referrals to seek mental health and medical care, substance abuse treatment or other community resources. Children, adolescents and adults are welcome.
- The Vocational Rehabilitation Program will have an orientation session today at 3:00 in the Culture & Heritage Building conference room, 2nd Those who cannot make it to one of the scheduled weekly sessions, call 541-553-4952 to request a one-on-one orientation.
- Aglow Bible Study is this evening at High Lookee Lodge from 6:15-7:30. Everyone is welcome.
Tuesday 3/12
- The Museum at Warm Springs will host a free Corn Husk Bag class taught by Kelli Palmer beginning tomorrow at 5:30pm. Some weaving experience is preferred but not required and it is open to the first 15 people who sign up. Contact Tamera Moody at the Museum to sign up.
Wednesday 3/13
- There is Community Acupuncture on Wednesday morning the Community Aerobics Room. Stop by anytime between 8 and 11:30am.
- Heart of Oregon YouthBuild is recruiting young people ages 16-24 for its Spring cohort beginning in mid-April. The program is geared toward youth who either have dropped out or are on the verge of being dropped from traditional high school. Members can earn a GED, diploma, college credit and job skills working in the classroom and in the field. Anyone interested must attend an information session to be considered. The next info session is Wednesday from 5-6:30pm in Redmond. Call 541-526-1380 to get details and to sign up.
2019 Warm Springs Nation Little League – baseball, softball and t-ball – registrations are being taken weekdays from 8am to 4:30pm at the Community Center. Baseball and softball tryouts will be March 19-21 and practices begin April 1st. Coaches and umpires need to complete forms and background checks. FMI: 541-325-3856.
