Community Calendar for Sunday April 7, 2019

  • The 2019 Simnasho Longhouse Root Feast is today starting at 9am.
  • Warm Springs Christian Fellowship meets this morning at 9:30 at the Senior Center.
  • The Warm Springs Baptist Church has Sunday School at 10:00 and Worship Service at 11:00 this morning.
  • The Warm Springs Food Bank is located at the Presbyterian Church. They are open from 11:30-1:30 today.  All food banks and pantries do take donations of non-perishable food or cash
  • Opera Bend will perform “Don Giovanni” today at 3pm at the Madras Performing Arts Center. Tickets are available online at www.OperaBend.org or at the door.

Monday 4/8

  • The Kalispel Tribe has challenged Warm Springs to a 10-week physical activity challenge that will start tomorrow and run thru June 16th. Email michael.holyan@wstribes.org if you want to participate. There is no cost, just report your hours to Mike once a week.
  • Tomorrow is a regular late start Monday for 509J schools.
  • Tribal Council meets tomorrow to review minutes and resolutions, and then with the Community Action Team about Vital Tribal Economies and endorsing Oregon IDA. In the afternoon there will be an update on the Veteran’s Memorial, a Tribal Attorney report and a meeting with the Cannabis Commission.

This year’s Jefferson County Community Read is “Birding Without Borders” by Noah Strycker. It is a non-fiction book about the author’s travel around the world documenting thousands of species of birds. Art Adventure Gallery will once again feature an exhibit with artwork inspired by the Community Read selection. Artists in all mediums are welcome. Applications are available at the gallery and online at ArtAdventureGallery.com. Artwork is due April 26th.

The Johnson O’Malley Committee will cover costs for caps, gowns and tassels for graduates. Pick up J.O.M. Request Forms from Carroll Dick at the Old Boys’ Dorm. J.O.M. Committee is also able to help with an allowance for spring sports – elementary through high school. The deadline to submit a request is April 11th.

There will be a Student Summer Work Program for high school students and college students in Warm Springs. Applications need to be submitted to the Work Experience Development Department at Education Building. Native American students ages 14-24, who are enrolled in traditional and alternative high school are eligible – the deadline is May 23rd. College students of any age may apply and they have until June 27th. Contact the WEDD office at 541-553-3324 for details.

Indian Head Casino is having blackjack dealer classes starting April 10th at its Human Resources office. Classes will be held weekdays from 8am to 4pm for 4 weeks. Classes are necessary for certification needed to be a table games dealer. To sign up call 541-460-7714.
