Community Calendar for Monday April 22, 2019

  • It is a regular late start Monday for 509J schools this morning.
  • Warm Springs Sanitation reminds residents to place their tote at the road. This will help them save time so they can do all the scheduled pick up with the staff and equipment they have available right now.  If you have questions – call the landfill at 553-3163.
  • Here is what is on the Tribal Council agenda today: This morning will be an update from attorney John Ogan, the May agenda, travel delegations, and minutes review and a County Line 2 Fire Update. This afternoon there is a state and federal legislative update call and then they will meet on enrollments. At 3:30 the Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund project approval is on the agenda and then Kahneeta at 4:00.
  • The Wellbriety “Celebrating Families” class for parents only Is today from 9am until noon on the 3rd floor at the Behavioral Health Center in the old Girls Dorm. Today’s topic is: Anger Managment.  You do need to be signed up for class to participate.  This is the last day for new participants. Call Paul or Sarah at 553-3205 to learn more.
  • Senior fitness class is this morning at 10:45 at the Senior Center. Participants are invited to eat brunch after – today they are having ­­­roast beef sandwiches, vegetable soup and fresh fruit.
  • The Head Start Policy Council meets today at noon at ECE.
  • There is Women’s Prayer Group at the Presbyterian Church from 12:15-12:45 today. All women are welcome.
  • Warm Springs Community Health at the Health & Wellness Center has a Behavior Health Clinic every Monday and Friday, walk-in appointments are available between 1 and 5pm. Services available include screenings, assessments, crisis intervention, and referrals to seek mental health and medical care, substance abuse treatment or other community resources. Children, adolescents and adults are welcome.
  • The Vocational Rehabilitation Program will have an orientation session today at 3:00 in the Culture & Heritage Building conference room, 2nd Those who cannot make it to one of the scheduled weekly sessions, call 541-553-4952 to  request a one-on-one orientation.
  • The Fish & Wildlife Committee will meet today from 3-5pm at the Tribal Admin Building, conference room 3.
  • Aglow Bible Study is this evening at High Lookee Lodge from 6:15-7:30. Everyone is welcome.

 Tuesday 4/23

  • The Range Committee will meet tomorrow 9am to noon at the Tribal Admin Building, conference room 3.
  • There is a Victim Impact Panel tomorrow from 6-7:30pm at the Warm Springs Baptist Church. Community members are welcome to attend and listen.

Wednesday 4/24

  • The Madras-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce will host a forum on Wednesday for candidates running for various boards and positions in Jefferson County in May. It will be at the Madras COCC campus starting with a meet and greet at 5:30 and candidate presentations and forum at 6pm on Wednesday.

A Community Cleanup is planned for the Simnasho Longhouse this Friday from 9:30-3:00. Families and community members are welcome to join in helping to clean up the longhouse. For more information contact Sandra Greene, Jaylyn Suppah or Charlene Dimmick.

This year’s Jefferson County Community Read is “Birding Without Borders” by Noah Strycker. It is a non-fiction book about the author’s travel around the world documenting thousands of species of birds. Art Adventure Gallery will once again feature an exhibit with artwork inspired by the Community Read selection. Artists in all mediums are welcome. Applications are available at the gallery and online at artadventuregallery.com. Artwork is due this Friday.

There will be a Student Summer Work Program for high school students and college students in Warm Springs. Applications need to be submitted to the Work Experience Development Department at Education Building. Native American students ages 14-24, who are enrolled in traditional and alternative high school are eligible – the deadline is May 23rd. College students of any age may apply and they have until June 27th. Contact the WEDD office at 541-553-3324 for details.
