Tribal Council’s Agency District Representatives are holding an agency district meeting tonight (8/26/19) to provide information on the 2020 enterprise revenue forecast and other issues of interest to Tribal Membership. Based on the revenue forecasts, the Tribal Government Budget next year is facing a shortfall. The meeting is at the agency longhouse. Dinner is at 5:30 and the meeting begins at 6.

2019 Off-reservation Deer & Elk Season for Archery Hunting began on Saturday and General Buck Deer Rifle season will open September 7th for Warm Springs Tribal Members. On reservation Buck Deer Rifle season is September 28th thru October 31st this year. Hunting tags, as always, are available at the Branch of Natural Resources Offices, or through the new online hunting website (https://hunting.warmsprings-nsn.gov/)

Oregon Congressman Greg Walden will this week make his first public appearances in our 2nd congressional district since the mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton. Town Halls are scheduled Wednesday (8/28/19) in Sherman County Town Hall at 9am at Bob’s Texas T-Bone in Rufus, in Gilliam County at 11:15am at the Arlington Fire Hall and in Morrow County at 2:15pm at Heppner City Hall. Thursday (8/29/19) this week he will hold a Harney County Town Hall at the Harney County Chamber of Commerce in Burns at 11am. Friday (8/30/19) Walden will do a Wasco County Town Hall at 9:30am at the Tygh School Community Center in Tygh Valley.

The new school year gets underway for 1st thru 8th graders next Tuesday at the Warm Springs K-8 Academy. With the closure of Warm Springs ECE before the end of the school year last spring – the usual registration process for new Kindergarten students didn’t happen and subsequently – there are quite a few families that still need to enroll their incoming Kindergarten students. The school office at the K8 is open all week. You can stop by or call (541-553-1128) to check on your Kinder’s enrollment status.

Madras High School kicks off their football season this Friday with a Jamboree in Sisters. The White Buffalos will again compete in the 3A-special district 1 East League with Blanchet Catholic, Corbett, Salem Academy, Scio and Yamhill-Carlton.

A non league match up for Madras Volleyball is this Thursday – when the Buffs travel to Elmira.

Game 1 of the new school year for Madras Soccer is next Tuesday when the both the girls and boys teams host Sisters.
