KWSO News for Thu., Feb. 18, 2021

Because COVID-19 is a new disease with new vaccines, information is rapidly emerging about how vaccines can help us stop the pandemic.  Currently, two vaccines are authorized and recommended to prevent COVID-19: Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine & Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.  In Warm Springs we have the Moderna Vaccine – and the vaccination consists of 2 shots 28 days apart.  You are fully vaccinated about 2 weeks after the second shot.  Studies show that the vaccines are effective at keeping you from getting COVID-19.   It’s also believed getting a vaccine may help keep you from getting seriously ill if you do get COVID.  The vaccine teach our immune systems how to recognize and fight the virus that causes COVID-19. It typically takes a few weeks after vaccination for the body to build protection (immunity) against the virus that causes COVID-19.  Vaccination is an important tool to help us get back to normal.  Vaccines are not yet approved for children although new drug trials have begun.

Please remember to continue to take all precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 even after you have been vaccinated as you can still “carry” the virus that causes COVID-19 even without feeling sick or having any symptoms.
