Applicants are being sought to join the Warm Springs Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund Advisory Committee. As a committee member, you would be a part in deciding which public transportation projects will best serve the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. There are applications available at the Tribal Administration Building and other areas around the community. The application deadline is March 1, 2019.

Better Together, a local nonprofit education organization, received a $1.5 million grant Tuesday to help train more than 3,000 Central Oregon educators to help teach and care for students who have suffered from traumatic experiences. The grant was given by the health care nonprofit Central Oregon Health Council, and three coaches will be hired to lead training that focuses on trauma, according to a Better Together press release. The organizations that will participate in the training include Central Oregon’s six major school districts, Oregon State University-Cascades, Central Oregon Community College, High Desert and Jefferson County educational service districts and many other education and health service providers.

Oregon highway managers are expecting troublesome driving conditions to remain across northern state highways for the next several days.  Interstate 84 through the Columbia Gorge remains a primary focus of snow and ice removal efforts and ODOT says there is additional concern about heavy rainfall and heavy winds as well. Expect heavy snow in mountain passes and high winds in some areas. Motorists should be prepared to install chains when required and plan extra travel time. ODOT says its snow removal teams are working 24-7. It recommends using Tripcheck.com to “know before you go”.

Madras High School will be hosting the 1A Big Sky Conference Basketball Tournament this Friday and Saturday.  On the boys bracket, Arlington will play Horizon at 4:30 Friday, and top seeded Sherman takes on Dufur at 7:30. For the girls, Dufur and South Wasco County tip off at 3:00 and Echo plays Ione at 6. It’s $10 for adults, $6 for students. They will have two-day options as well.
